Alec Baldwin: 'I've Had the Entire Internet Shoved up My *ss'

Alec Baldwin: 'I've Had the Entire Internet Shoved up My *ss'

by Christian Toto 31 Mar 2014, 1:07 PM PDT
The latest stop on Alec Baldwin's "I'm retreating from public life" tour took him to Adam Carolla's popular podcast.

On The Adam Carolla Show's March 26 edition, Baldwin called in seemingly unannounced to chat up the host, "Bald" Bryan and Alison Rosen.

Baldwin wasn't plugging any new project, nor was he eager to answer questions from Carolla. Instead, he used his air time to vent about journalism (again), feign indifference regarding the many unpleasant stories about him and, mostly likely, continue to do damage control on his career.

"I've had the entire Internet shoved up my ass for the past few months. Is there anything you can recommend for that?" Baldwin said, laughing.

Carolla tried to ask what specific issue was bugging him at the moment, but Baldwin wouldn't bite.

"It's not even worth going into ... in the end, who cares?" Baldwin said. Obviously, Baldwin cares deeply, either for personal reasons or fear his career could be hurt by the fallout.

The podcaster treated his guest with great care and deference, while Baldwin complained about the crush of commentary in the culture today.

"All of journalism, from one end to the other, it's all opinion and analysis. The facts are lost," Baldwin said.

The two then discussed how people in the public eye can be called terrible names--sexist, racist, for example--without actually doing something to prove they feel that way in their hearts.

"We're living at a time when you can be called an arsonist without striking a single match," Carolla said. "You used to have to earn it."

Baldwin briefly admitted he had done and said things "in the zip code" of being a hater. He quickly backpedaled, insinuating he had simply criticized certain people who happened to be gay, and then was labeled a homophobe as a result.

Nonsense.

Ironically, the channel Baldwin briefly called home makes it its business to hammer people who criticize President Barack Obama as racist for the crime of disagreeing with his policies. Yet Baldwin never seemed too concerned about that before or after his lightning-fast MSNBC career.

In short, Baldwin is angry he's getting caught in a P.C. language trap his fellow liberals have been using for years against their ideological enemies. Yet while the Left conjures up "code words" and other mystical attempts to change plain language into hate speech, Baldwin actually uses hate speech. Often.

Politico Gives Obamacare Enrollment 'A-' Grade

Politico Gives Obamacare Enrollment 'A-' Grade

by Warner Todd Huston 30 Mar 2014
Politico has awarded Obamacare a grade of "A-" for its first enrollment season, lauding the law for almost reaching its signup goal. However, despite Politico's happy face on the Affordable Care Act, the public's support for the law is at an all-time low.
On March 28 Politico author David Nather made to grade several areas of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, or ACA (also known as Obamacare), and found that, despite its monumental failures, it was mostly praiseworthy.

This praise from Politico is in sharp contrast to public support of the ACA which is now at an all-time low. A new poll by the AP and GfK polling shows that public support for Obamacare has plummeted to 26 percent favorable.

Obamacare was even ridiculed by several floats during New Orleans Mardi Gras parades.

Among other categories, Nather gave Obamacare an "A-" for its success at public enrollment. By his own admission, Obama originally said he needed seven million enrollees – and didn't get them, claiming six million on Thursday of this week. He also said he needed 38 percent of enrollees to be young people so that the system wouldn't financially collapse – and didn't get them. Politico does not worry about any of that.

Worse, Nather glosses over the fact that this six-million signup claim may be utterly meaningless because there is no indication that all six million actually took possession of and paid for their first insurance policy premium. So, the six million claim is more like six million saying they intend to get insurance, not six million actually getting insurance.

By one estimate, up to 30 percent of those who claimed to have "signed up" for Obamacare on the ACA website never actually paid their premiums or got any insurance at all. Nather quotes a more conservative 15-20 percent, which could still lower the number of actual enrollees below five million – and thus less than 70 percent of the original seven million enrollment goal. Still, that shortfall deserves an "A-," because the numbers "could also tick up during the rest of the year," Nather reasons.

There are other reasons to believe that this claimed number of signups is false, too.

The President sold Obamacare in 2009 by scolding America because 40 million Americans had no insurance. Yet now he's excited that he signed up a mere six million for insurance? That seems to be quite a failure, if 40 million needed to be served, and he only served six million.

It gets worse when we realize that most of this six million did have insurance before Obamacare and lost it because of Obamacare.

Politico ignored many of these facts and merely took Obama's claims at face value to give him a happy "A minus" grade for enrollment.

The news site also graded several other areas of the rollout of Obamacare. It gave the ACA's "mix of customers" a "B" even though, as noted above, Obamacare did not get the number of young people it needs to stay financially viable. Showing his desperation for the young age group to signup, in the last two weeks Obama made a major push to get those under 40 to sign up. It doesn't seem to have worked.

There were two areas where Politico gave Obamacare an "F," and deservedly so. First was over website readiness. Certainly, the debut of the Obamacare website was a crashing failure and still is in many ways. However, Politico gave "website repairs" a "B-" despite that the back end of the system is still not giving insurance companies useful information.

Second, Obamacare got an "F" for Obama's lie of the year: "You can keep your healthcare policy if you like it."

For the most part, though, Nather gave Obamacare glowing grades despite all its massive failures, many of which continue to this day.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Politico put a happy face on the massive failure that is Obamacare. In February, the outlet proclaimed the ACA a success despite its crashing failures.

Bob Kerrey: Obama Knew He Was Lying About Health Insurance

Bob Kerrey: Obama Knew He Was Lying About Health Insurance

Monday, 31 Mar 2014 12:04 PM
By Drew MacKenzie
Former Sen. Bob Kerrey said President Barack Obama must have known he was lying when he told Americans they could keep their insurance plans under his signature healthcare reform act.

"He had to know he was misleading the audience," the Nebraska Democrat said about Obama's pledge as he was touting his Affordable Care Act.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, he said, "'On the other hand, he may have said it so many times that the spell-checker wasn't in the room — the spell-checker, the fact-checker — somebody who says, 'Excuse me, Mr. President, but I hope you know this.'"

Kerrey, who was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1992, said Obama's "promise" was never going to be carried out because "there were a million people out there with policies that, for one reason or another, run short of the minimum standard. I mean, they bought something cheaper."

The former Nebraska governor, who served in that position from 1983 to 1987, told the newspaper that Obama has actually made an even worse lie about healthcare coverage than the one he's known for, that is, "Everybody deserves high-quality, affordable healthcare."

Sarcastically, Kerrey added, "I don't know if you've heard about the bell curve? If I've got 1,000 doctors, 100 are great, and 100 are not so good. It's absolutely impossible. And affordable? Forget about it."

Kerrey, who was a U.S. senator from 1989 to 2001, also slammed the president for bringing out Obamacare at a time when the economy was floundering.

"I wouldn't have done healthcare," Kerrey said. "I think the big mistake was to say, 'Whew! We've got the stimulus done. OK, the economy's going to come bouncing back in 12 months, let's do healthcare.' Only the economy didn't come bouncing back.

"We're teetering on the edge of going out of business through most of 2009. And I think you need to just keep driving, driving on the economy, and make it as bipartisan as possible."

Kerrey, who was beaten by Republican Deb Fischer in 2012 when he tried to win back his old Senate seat, also took a shot at Democrats for handing out entitlements, which could eventually bankrupt the country, the Daily Mail reported.

"We're robbing from the future to pay for the past," he said. "We just are. And we're shoveling more and more money to people over the age of 65."

Kerrey claimed that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are willing to take the first step toward cutting benefits for retirees or raising the retirement age. "'It's the one thing R's and D's can agree on," he said. "Don't screw with seniors."

Kerrey also said he believes that Obama was re-elected in 2012 because former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney did not set the bar high enough.

"After the 2012 election, what the president needed was somebody to say, 'Mr. President, I'm thrilled you won. You stand for all the things I support. But honestly, you won this election because you sucked less than Romney."'

The Obamacare Vortex

Ezekiel Emanuel: Obamacare Enrollment Will Hit 6.8 Million
Monday, 31 Mar 2014 10:17 AM
By Wanda Carruthers
One of the primary architects of Obamacare predicted the final enrollment number for healthcare insurance after Monday's deadline would come close to the original White House estimate of 7 million.

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, former White House adviser for health policy, expected the final tally to hit 6.8 million. He based the prediction on a Michigan web developer.

"The best website is this place called ACAsignup.net. And the guy is a web developer in Michigan and has been the most accurate person so far. His prediction today is 6.78 million. And it's going to be in that range," Emanuel told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Monday.

Of the people who signed up, Emanuel said about 83 percent had paid their premiums. He said the numbers looked healthy "given two months of a terrible website."

"I think, actually, the administration can be comfortable," Emanuel said.

Of those who enrolled in Obamacare, Emanuel guessed healthy people would probably total around 28 percent — enough to "keep the rates sufficiently stable."

Emanuel explained after the rocky Obamacare rollout, the administration was "beginning to know the characteristics of a good" website.

"It's actually working. And, so that's, I think, another real surprise, that they really have the website working mechanically, in terms of server capacity and all of that," he said.

When "Morning Joe" co-host Willie Geist pointed out the website was down as of midnight Sunday, Emanuel laughed and said it had been working when he logged in Sunday at 10 p.m.

Barrasso: Administration 'Cooking the Books' on Obamacare

Barrasso: Administration 'Cooking the Books' on Obamacare
Sunday, 30 Mar 2014 02:09 PM
By Sandy Fitzgerald
The Obama administration is "cooking the books" while touting its numbers on Obamacare, Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso says. And even though there are Democrats working on "fixes" to the president's signature healthcare law, "it is not fixable."

Last week, the Obama administration reported 6 million people had signed up for insurance, and that it expected its initial goal of 7 million customers by March 31 will be filled as people sign on at the last minute.

But Barrasso, a physician, told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace that the number of people who have paid for their coverage is lower than the White House admits, and so is the number of previously uninsured people.

"I don’t think [six million] means anything," said Barrasso. “I think they’re cooking the books on this. People want to know the answers to that. They also want to know, when this is all said and done, what kind of insurance will those actually have?"

He said that even though people may have insurance, "will they be able to keep the doctor that they want? How much more is it going to cost them? And we know that the best cancer hospitals in the country want very little to do with people that actually buy this insurance on the Obamacare exchanges."

Administration guidelines for the success of Obamacare say that 38 million of the people who are signing up need to be young and healthy so the plans can be funded. However, only about a fourth of them are young, said Wallace.

Further, the numbers are lower when it comes to people who were previously uninsured. Twenty-seven percent of those signing up already had other coverage, and another 23 percent have not paid their first premiums, said Wallace.

Maine Sen. Angus King, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, has been working on a plan to change some of the Obamacare provisions, including offering a "copper" level plan on the exchanges that will cost customers less money but expect them to pay higher premiums. Another change being eyed is to allow companies with up to 99 full-time employees to enjoy an exemption from having to provide insurance for their workers, instead of the current provision giving that exemption to companies with 50 or fewer full-timers.

King, appearing on the Sunday show, argued that enrollees are now up to 6.5 million, "numbers that don't come from the White House, and he anticipates that there will be another surge of people before the Monday cutoff.

"The sign-ups are getting younger by the day," King said. "Younger people, not surprisingly, are the last people to sign up."

The open enrollment date, which President Barack Obama ordered pushed back into mid-April for people who say they are having problems signing on because of the HeathCare.gov. website, will not create an inconsistency, said King.

"People are in line, and they've started the process of signing up," he said, comparing the extension to when voters are allowed to cast ballots if they already standing in line."

But Barrasso said the extension does not deal with the "issue of actually getting people care. What we see is even with those signing up, many of them are seeing higher premiums [but they] can't keep their doctors, and they can't keep their hospitals."

For example, he said, 10 of 28 New Hampshire's hospitals are excluded from the Obamacare exchange plans.

Further, Barrasso said that even the changes proposed by King and other Democrats "only nibbles around the edges, but it doesn't get to the fundamental flaws."

Democrats are "unnerved" and "pushing the panic button," he said, because they are worried about keeping their seats in this year's midterm election battles.

"What we're seeing now are politicians trying to save their political careers instead of focusing on medical care," he said.

‘Noah’ Rides Controversy to $44 Million Box-Office Triumph

‘Noah’ Rides Controversy to $44 Million Box-Office Triumph
The Wrap
By Todd Cunningham
The Biblical epic “Noah” rode a tide of controversy to a $44 million opening, sailing past “Divergent” and into the top spot at the domestic box office this weekend.

Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of the Old Testament tale surged on Saturday and finished well ahead of expectations that had been tempered by months of negative buzz — mainly from church groups wary of the “Black Swan” director's edgy style and reports that the film strayed too far from Scripture. Distributor Paramount, which backed the film with New Regency, even added a statement at the beginning of the movie noting that it was a dramatic interpretation.
