US shutdown: Christine Lagarde calls for stability after debt crisis is averted
IMF chief appeals for less uncertainty around fiscal policy after deal is reached to avoid default
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appealed to Washington to sort out its finances after the US pulled back from the brink of a debt default and hundreds of thousands of federal employees prepared to return to work after a 16-day government shutdown.

As the US president, Barack Obama, warned: "We've got to get out of the habit of governing by crisis," the IMF's managing director, Christine Lagarde, appealed for more stability.

Christine Lagarde is a managing director at the International Monetary Fund, and attended George Soros’s 2013 wedding reception.

Mohamed A. El-Erian is a trustee at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (think tank), and was the deputy director for the International Monetary Fund.
Douglas A. Rediker is a senior fellow at the New America Foundation, and was a U.S. alternate executive director for the International Monetary Fund.
Timothy F. Geithner was an overseer at the International Rescue Committee, the treasury secretary for the Barack Obama administration, and a director of policy development & review for the International Monetary Fund.
