A driver in a black Ford Escape SUV reportedly tried to ram the gate of the National Security Agency building at Fort Meade, Md., early Monday morning, leading to a shooting and mass police response to the scene, various media outlets reported.

CNN reported security guards shot at the vehicle, killing one and injuring the other. CNN also said NSA officials aren’t commenting about the incident or confirming what Anne Arundel police have released to the media.

Fox News, meanwhile, reported one was killed and two injured, and the incident began when the two men in the vehicle – dressed and disguised as women – got into an altercation with the gate guard that ultimately led to the shooting. It’s not clear who was killed and injured. Fox News also reported one victim was a 20-year-old man; another, a 40-year-old man.

Law enforcement officials meanwhile told CNN a vehicle tried to ram the gate that leads to the NSA facility, and security officers responded to the threat with gunfire.

The Associated Press, citing Chad Jones, a spokesman for the Maryland-based military facility, said two were treated for injuries of an indisclosed nature.

Video footage showed several police cars outside the gate and a person covered by a white sheet being transported by stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

WUSA9 reported NSA police are in charge of the investigation, since it occurred on government grounds, but Anne Arundel County officers are on hand to assist.

Jones said he didn’t know how the injuries occurred.

The facility is located about a half hour from Washington, D.C.

from the missing-the-old-'No-Such-Accountability'-already dept
Former NSA head Keith Alexander continues to draw the sort of attention he probably hoped he had left behind by resigning his post. His questionable business venture -- a private banking security firm seemingly dependent on patents and methods polished during his tenure at the NSA -- has drawn pointed questions from legislators and a second glance from the internal ethics apparatus of the intelligence agency.
