Celebrates Hillary Victory on First Night of Tour

Ten-time Grammy-winning singer and longtime
Democratic Party contributor Barbra Streisand
kicked off her summer tour in Los Angeles Tuesday night with what one attendee
described as a joyous celebration of Hillary
Clinton’s nomination for presidency of the United States.
According
to the Drudge Report, the 74-year-old entertainer was in a
“celebratory mood” as she performed at the Staples Center in
Los Angeles for the opening night of her tour, gleefully
skewering Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump before performing
her 1962 hit “Happy Days Are Here Again.”
“Our genetic makeup is 99.9 percent identical to every
person on the face of the earth. The other .1 percent is Donald Trump!” the
singer reportedly joked during the performance.
One attendee told Drudge that Streisand appeared to be
“dancing” on Trump’s “grave” and “partying like it was [Hillary’s]
inauguration.”
Streisand did, in fact, perform at a Clinton
inauguration; specifically, at Bill Clinton’s inauguration gala, in 1993. The
singer performed a number of her hits, including “Evergreen,” which she said was
Bill Clinton’s favorite song.
Streisand has been a longtime Democratic Party
contributor, and helped raise money for President Obama’s reelection in 2012.
The singer has also been a vocal
critic of Donald Trump, telling ABC News in November that she is
“not worried” about the prospect of a Trump presidency.
“It’s terrifyingly scary, but it’s funny. But scary,”
Streisand said then, referring to the prospect of Trump winning the White
House. “I want Hillary Clinton to be president. We need a woman
president. We need compassion. We need to have a person who comes
from the heart and the brain, and experience. Experience counts.”
Streisand’s choice of “Happy Days Are Here Again” at her
Los Angeles concert may have been no coincidence; according
to TIME, the song has been associated with the Democratic
Party ever since it became the “unofficial” campaign theme song for
Franklin D. Roosevelt at the 1932 Democratic National Convention.
According
to Variety, Streisand noted at the concert that she’d sung
the tune for three sitting presidents — John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and
Bill Clinton.
“And I hope in a few months from now I will be singing it
for the next President Clinton,” Streisand said.
