Leonardo DiCaprio has endorsed Kamala Harris in next month’s presidential election, arguing that her rival Donald Trump “continues to deny the facts” and “deny the science” around climate change.

The Oscar-winning actor, 49, previously endorsed Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

In a video posted to his Instagram account, DiCaprio said he was basing his decision on seeing the effects of climate change hit the United States.

“Earlier this month, hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated parts of Florida, Georgia and North Carolina,” he said. “Families lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones to some of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded. These storms have done an estimated $100 billion in damage. And make no mistake, these unnatural disasters were caused by climate change.”

The Killers of the Flower Moon star went on to argue that Trump does not take the threat of climate change seriously. “Donald Trump continues to deny the facts,” he said. “He continues to deny the science. He withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Accords and rolled back critical environmental protections.

“Now he's promised the oil and gas industry that he'll get rid of any regulation they want in exchange for a billion-dollar donation. Climate change is killing the earth and ruining our economy.”

Backing Harris’s record on the climate, DiCaprio added: “We need a bold step forward to save our economy, our planet and ourselves. That's why I'm voting for Kamala Harris.

“She helped lead the most significant climate action in US history, including passing the Inflation Reduction Act. Under her leadership, we set ambitious targets for achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and building a green economy that not only creates jobs, but also helps save our planet.”

He finished by urging viewers to check their voter registration and join him in voting for Harris, concluding: “We cannot afford to go backwards.”

DiCaprio is one of many Hollywood stars to endorse Harris for president in recent weeks. Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway and lifestyle guru Martha Stewart have all revealed they’ll be voting for Harris on election day, November 5.

United States Vice President Kamala Harris is eyeing to become the country’s first female president. A high-profile friendship is helping her to realise that goal.

Philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs has reportedly played a key role in propping up Harris as Democratic presidential nominee after US President Joe Biden’s disaster debate with Donald Trump. The duo have been friends for years.

Here’s a look at how Powell Jobs has a hand behind Harris’ rise.

Who is Laurene Powell Jobs?

Laurene Powell Jobs, 60, is the founder of Emerson Collective, a philanthropy and investment firm. Her collective is the majority owner of The Atlantic magazine.

Powell Jobs did her MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. It was here in 1989 that she met Steve Jobs, the co-founder and former CEO of Apple.

The duo married in 1991 and had three children – Reed, Erin, and Eve.

She inherited Steve Jobs’ stake in Apple and Disney upon his death. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Powell Jobs’ current net worth is $11.5 billion, making her the wealthiest woman in Silicon Valley.

Harris and Powell’s friendship

Powell Jobs’ friendship with Harris is not new. As per a New York Times (NYT) report, the philanthropist has emerged as Harris’ “essential” confidante over the past two decades.

Not only has she provided funds and counsel to Harris but also helped boost the Democratic nominee’s public profile.

Powell Jobs has been funding Democratic politics for years. She and her collective have donated more than $3.4 million to Democratic nominees and other funds since 2020, Fortune reported citing the Federal Election Commission filings.

As per the NYT report, Harris’ bonhomie with Powell Jobs developed over shared political philosophy, a fascination for art and culture, and their “mutual trials” as women in public life.

In 2003, Powell Jobs donated $500 to Harris’ first run for San Francisco’s district attorney. Next year, they attended the March for Women’s Lives in Washington, DC, with other female leaders from the Bay Area.

When Biden swore in Harris as a Senator in January 2017, Powell Jobs was among the 59-year-old’s “extended family” to get a picture with the then-US Vice President.

As per the NYT report, Powell Jobs has organised several fundraisers for Harris, including many at her house. Last year, she made three donations to Harris’ campaign worth nearly $1 million.

“Laurene has a gift for friendship, especially old friends — she is tribally loyal. Kamala Harris falls within that ring of friends,” David Bradley, who sold The Atlantic magazine to Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective, told the American newspaper.

In 2017, when asked in an interview about running for the 2020 US presidency herself, Powell Jobs turned the spotlight on Harris.

Pointing to her friend who was sitting in the crowd at a tech conference, the billionaire said: “I vote for her”.

Is Laurene Powell behind Harris’ ascent?

Powell Jobs, who has connections to Silicon Valley, has placed her bets on her close friend, Harris. She has “quietly” given millions of dollars to an organisation backing Harris’ presidential bid, three people in the know of the matter told NYT.

In fact, the billionaire worked behind the curtain to push Biden out of the presidential race after his disastrous June debate. As per NYT, Powell Jobs expressed her concerns to major Democratic donors about the 81-year-old’s ability to defeat Trump.

When the US president insisted on staying in the contest, Harris reportedly looked at her options and turned to Powell Jobs for counsel, among others.

Soon, Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee as Biden exited the race. As per NYT, Powell Jobs has pulled her weight to encourage female technology leaders to publicly support Harris. She is also helping in getting funds for Harris’ campaign.

Several polls have put Harris ahead of Trump in the presidential race. If she wins, will Powell Jobs have a role in the Democrat’s administration?

Some say the billionaire will be an “insider” even if she does not hold a formal position.

“Laurene is one of a small number of philanthropists who has both made significant investments in educational innovation and is also actively engaged in Democratic politics,” Marc Porter Magee, an education-reform advocate, told NYT. “If Harris wins, she and her staff could emerge as important players in an administration that has yet to define its K-12 [Kindergarten to Class 12] agenda.”

Jessica Rosenworcel, chair of the Federal Communications Commission, responded to concerns from congressional Republicans after the FCC approved, on a 3-2 vote, the transfer of licenses for 200 radio stations owned by Audacy to a company controlled by the Fund for Policy Reform, a nonprofit funded by billionaire George Soros.

Reps. James Comer, R-Ky., and Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., members of the House Oversight Committee, had written a letter to Rosenworcel, announcing an investigation into the FCC's approval of the transfer, which they claim ignored concerns about foreign ownership.

"The FCC appears to be bypassing standard processes and procedures in an unprecedented way to benefit a Democrat megadonor acquiring a major equity stake in hundreds of local radio stations across the country," the legislators wrote.

In her letter, Rosenworcel said FCC handled the process like how it handled the bankruptcy proceedings of Cumulus Media, iHeart Media, and Alpha Media.

"The standard practice of the agency here and in these prior cases is designed to facilitate the prompt and orderly emergence from bankruptcy of a company that is a licensee under the Communications Act," Rosenworcel wrote.

The two Republicans on the FCC board voted against the deal. Brendan Carr, a Federal Communications Commission commissioner, told Newsmax this month the agency's recent decision was unprecedented.

Comer and Langworthy are concerned the timing of the move could allow Soros to exert greater influence over the airwaves in advance of the upcoming presidential election.

According to the FCC's filing on the sale, four members of the Fund for Policy Reform's board are U.S. citizens, and Audacy CEO David J. Field will continue to serve in his position at the new Audacy and he will sit on the company's board.

The Israeli Defense Forces announced Wednesday that six journalists working for Al Jazeera are linked to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, The Times of Israel reported.

The IDF said it had obtained documents during military operations in Gaza that tied the reporters to the terror groups.

The journalists, identified as Anas Al-Sharif, Alaa Salama, Hossam Shabat, Ashraf Saraj, Ismail Abu Amr, and Talal Aruki, allegedly held positions ranging from rocket squad leader to sniper.

The IDF said they were active in their terror organizations and also employed by Al Jazeera, spreading propaganda for Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The IDF said documents found include personnel lists, records of terrorist training and payroll details, which "unequivocally proves that [the journalists] function as military terrorist operatives of the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip."

The Israeli military added that the journalists have been instrumental in promoting Hamas' narrative on Al Jazeera, particularly in the northern Gaza Strip.

Earlier this year, Israel said two Al Jazeera staffers killed in a Gaza airstrike were terror operatives. A month later, it said another journalist, who was wounded in a separate strike, was a deputy Hamas commander.

Al Jazeera has denied the allegations.

Around the turn of the 20^th century, The New York Times, London Globe, and Scientific American published articles purporting the discovery of gigantic human skeletons, concluding that the remains were sent to the Smithsonian for further study. But the fact that this evidence was never again seen or reported, continues to elicit questions of whether the Smithsonian destroys giant skeletons in order to cover up an inconvenient anomaly in the archeological narrative we’ve been told.

The question has been heatedly debated over the past century or more, with researchers finding what appears to be corroborating evidence, while skeptics say the bones were simply those of massive prehistoric animals, reclassified by the Smithsonian and displayed in museums to this day.

And while physical evidence remains tenuous, there is a seemingly endless trail of written and anecdotal suggestion that a larger race of humans once walked the Earth.

A Brief History of the Smithsonian

Though it may not be immediately obvious, the Smithsonian Institution is an extension of the U.S. government with congressional members sitting on its Board of Regents. It was initially founded as “an establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge among men,” at the endowment of philanthropist, chemist, and mineralogist James Smithson.

And while it’s not a regulatory agency, it is so intrinsically tied to government that it claims immunity from state and local regulations, as well as immunity from lawsuits unless authorized by Congress.

The Smithsonian was established in 1846 and was tasked with the mission of organizing the anthropological history of the United States. It is sometimes referred to as “the nation’s attic,” as it has amassed somewhere in the range of 154 million items between its myriad museums, research centers, and various facilities.
