The Next Constitutional Amendment

      What do people really mean when they say that the US Constitution should be amended for some reason? The purpose of this forthcoming program is to have an interesting discussion about a few specific proposals. 

            Here are a few examples of the types of proposed amendments which we may discuss:

“Citizens who pay more in Federal taxes than they receive in Federal assistance will be allowed to vote in Federal elections.”

    "Members of the House of Representatives are limited to a maximum of three terms and members of the Senate are limited to a maximum of two terms. No person to serve more than fourteen years total as a member of Congress."

    "Recognizing that after more than 200 years, the USA is an established country, the Federal government may, through its legislative process, set minimum nationwide standards for education, worker safety, health care and pollution control. The Federal government may - but, is not required to - assist individual states in meeting such standards."

    "Districts represented by members of Congress, or by members of any state legislative body, shall be compact and composed of contiguous territory. The state shall have the burden of justifying any departures from this requirement by reference to some neutral criteria."

About the Moderator:

    Kishor M. Kulkarni has had a life long interest in news and current issues. He has been active in many organizations such as the councils on world affairs, Optimist International, UNICEF, Mensa and many engineering societies. He has served as the President of Indiana Council on World Affairs. He started and operated for more than twenty years, a small business in Indiana. He received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and doctorate from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He joined Mensa more than thirty years back.
