MSNBC's Chris Matthews got into a heated exchange with a congressman on his show Tuesday as he revisited the question of President Barack Obama's birth certificate — or lack of one.

Rep. John Campbell, R-Calif., is a co-sponsor of the so-called "birther bill," which would require future presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificates.

“Birthers” are those who believe Obama is not qualified to be president, based on a belief that he was not born in the United States.

Campbell is not a “birther” and never has claimed that Obama was born outside the United States or should be disqualified from being president.


On the show, Matthews seemingly undermined claims by some that Obama never has released his birth certificate, producing what Matthews said was a true copy of it.


But Matthews made a false claim. Obama never has released his actual birth certificate. He has released another document, which state authorities often provide in lieu of a birth certificate, called a certification of live birth.

Matthews on Tuesday said Campbell was "playing to the crazies" by supporting the "crazy" bill, and the congressman shot back that it was all about "putting the matter to rest."

Matthews also accused Campbell of "feeding the wacko wing of your party," and held up what he called a copy of the supposed Obama birth certificate.

Case closed?

The indisputable fact is that Obama has not released his birth certificate, which the state of Hawaii issues for all citizens born there.

Instead, his campaign has released only his certification of live birth from the state of Hawaii, which is a document that offers a summarized version of the birth certificate.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, GOP nominee Sen. John McCain quickly released his birth certificate when liberal bloggers raised questions about his eligibility to be president. McCain was born at a military hospital in Panama.

Obama likewise could put the matter to rest by releasing his actual birth certificate, which would show, among other things, the place of his birth and the doctor who performed the birth procedure. This information is not provided on the certification of live birth.

As it stands, Obama is the only president in history whose birthplace is unknown to the public – a fact that would be stated on the actual birth certificate. Interestingly, his family has mentioned two different hospitals in Hawaii as the place of birth.

The fact that Obama has refused to release his actual birth certificate does not mean conspiracy theorists are right when they claim he was born in Kenya and therefore not eligible to be president. Investigators who have reviewed the claims have found no evidence Obama was born outside of Hawaii.

But Obama’s refusal to release his birth certificate does mean that Obama remains one of America’s most mysterious and opaque presidents ever.

Obama, for example, has not released many other documents regarding his public and private life.

Many of these documents were sought by reporters, who easily acquiesced when Obama said he would not release them – though most presidential candidates release them as a perfunctory matter.

Among the key documents that Obama continues to shield from the public:


Obama released just one brief document detailing his personal health. McCain, on the other hand, released what he said was his complete medical file, totaling more than 1,500 pages.


Obama refused to offer his official papers as a state legislator in Illinois. Nor did he produce correspondence, such as his schedules of appointments or letters from lobbyists, from his days in the Illinois state Senate.


Obama did not release his client list as an attorney or his billing records. He maintained that he performed only a few hours of legal work for a nonprofit organization with ties to Tony Rezko, the Chicago businessman convicted of fraud in June 2008 but did not release billing records that would prove this assertion.


Obama ignored requests for his records from Occidental College, where he studied for two years before transferring to Columbia University.


Obama’s campaign refused to give Columbia, where he earned an undergraduate degree in political science, permission to release his transcripts. Former President George W. Bush and presidential contenders Al Gore and John Kerry all released their college transcripts.


Obama did not agree to the release of his application to the Illinois State Bar, which would have cleared up intermittent allegations that his application may have been inaccurate.


Obama did not release records from his time at Harvard Law School.


During the presidential campaign, McCain’s campaign released a full list of all online donors. Obama’s campaign still has not released the names of those who donated at least one-third of the $750 million he raised.

Ironically, Obama accused the Bush White House of being "one of the most secretive administrations in our history," and chided then-Sen. Hillary Clinton for not releasing her White House schedules.

By the way, the issue of the Occidental College records is especially pertinent. The United States Justice Foundation (USJF) served officials at Occidental College with a subpoena to produce records concerning Barack Obama's attendance there during the 1980's, because those records could document whether he was attending as a foreign national. You see, Mr. Obama attended the school on a scholarship -- and there are questions as to whether the financial aid he received was reserved for foreign students. The Obama attorneys have bent over backward to block us. He doesn't want anyone to see those records. He's STILL trying to hide them; those financial records STILL have not been released.

WHAT is Barack Obama trying to hide? WHAT is he afraid of? WHY doesn't he just release these documents to prove that he is a natural-born citizen and, therefore, qualified to serve as President -- especially his actual birth certificate?

Isn't it time we FORCED him to come clean? His "birthday" is the PERFECT time to do it!

I dared bring Barack Obama into court to force him to produce his birth certificate, and put an end to the controversy over his status as a "natural born" citizen once and for all. And now he's coming after me and the United States Justice Foundation (USJF) -- the public-interest legal group that I founded over 30 years ago -- with a vengeance!

• First, Mr. Obama's refusal to release his birth certificate. If he has nothing to hide, what does he gain by refusing to allow the press to see the birth certificate?
• Second, the contention by Barack Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, that Mr. Obama was born in a particular Hawaiian hospital, only to claim that it was in a different hospital several years later. And, most recently, Barack Hussein Obama has contradicted himself, in writing, regarding the name of the hospital where he claims to have been born.
• Third, the erecting of a wall around Barack Obama's grandmother, the late Madelyn Dunham, by Mr. Obama, thus cutting off access to the one person then alive who would have been present if he was actually born in Hawaii.
• Fourth, the posting of law enforcement personnel at the two hospitals in Honolulu mentioned by Ms. Soetoro-Ng in an effort to block the press from discovering the truth about the birth certificate.
• Fifth, a taped phone conversation with Mr. Obama's step-grandmother in Kenya, who claims that she was present at his birth... in what is now called Kenya!
• Sixth, the "birth certificate" posted on the Obama campaign website and other liberal websites. Since Barack Obama was born in 1961, long before laser printers and office computers, his original birth certificate would be typewritten ... unlike the laser printed "copy" purported to be genuine.
The evidence demands that Barack Obama answer why he has been hiding the truth from the American people about his eligibility to run for, and serve as, President!

It's TRUE. Not only does Mr. Obama continue to categorically refuse to produce the decisive evidence proving whether he is a "natural born" citizen, his high-priced LA-based "dream team" of attorneys has USJF squarely in its crosshairs! And they're loading both barrels!

You see, when Barack Obama officially entered the office of President, he became, in essence, a "pretender to the throne." According to the Constitution, only a "natural born citizen" can occupy the presidency.

Even though he was sworn in on January 20, 2009, Barack Obama is NOT legally the President of the United States, unless he can prove that he is a "natural born citizen."

What's more, every action taken by him while he occupies the White House may be invalid. If he cannot legally be President, every law passed by Congress will be null and void because the Constitution clearly requires that all laws be signed by the President... and, without a legally elected and sworn in President in office, that becomes an impossibility.

Quite frankly, this crisis must be ended! And it must be ended NOW!

I read a copy of your lawsuit, and wish you well in it. I too would sue if I had enough time left on earth. I am writing to provide you with some additional insight that you may already be aware of.

In the event that you are not I wish to inform you of the possibility that the name Barrack H Obama may never have legally been restored to Barry Soetoro.

In most states a petition for name change IS required by law, and becomes PUBLIC RECORD when the court grants the name change. I spent many months searching all possible databases, and newspaper files in an attempt to determine exactly when his birth name was legally reinstated. I was not able to find any evidence that the name Barrack H Obama was ever legally reinstated.

If this is still the case then the person occupying the Whitehouse is legally Barry Soetoro. This means that he isn't even the legal POTUS.

In reality he is pretending to be the POTUS. I also believe that many in Congress are fully aware of this imposter, but are afraid to try to do anything about it. This name change petition is extremely important to your lawsuit, and you should pursue action under FOIA to force the record of name change to be revealed, where and when it was legally carried out. If no record is found then there is ACTIONABLE doubt of his being the legal POTUS. He registered, and campaigned under the name of Obama. That is the name that he must legally hold, to be the legally elected POTUS. This all needs to be seriously researched.

I am 77 years of age, and in failing health. I have passed all of this on to you in the hope that you might be able to use this info to add strength to your case.

CNN Boss Leans On Lou Dobbs


CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein sent an email to a handful of "Lou Dobbs Tonight" staffers last night regarding the coverage of the so-called Birthers and the validity of Obama's eligibility.

In part, Klein writes, "It seems this story is dead -- because anyone who still is not convinced doesn't really have a legitimate beef." Klein asked CNN researchers to dig into the question of why Obama couldn't produce the original birth certificate. The researchers contacted the Hawaii Health Dept. and confirmed that paper documents were discarded in 2001 when the department went paperless. That reportedly includes Obama's original birth certificate.

If Klein's statement is true, then this official statement, dated October 31, 2008, from state health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino is false:

"Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."

If what Klein says is true, Fukino is lying. If what Fukino says is true, Klein is lying. It's one or the other, isn't it?

Klein may be the king of the dung heap at CNN, but this story is far from dead.

The simple fact, that Klein, Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, John Stewart and even The New York Times, are addressing the eligibility issue on a daily basis now is clear evidence that the eligibility question is never, ever, going to go away. It will dog Obama until he goes back to Chicago -- or releases his bona fides.

The Times writes, "Advocates of the issue, who are sometimes called Birthers, have succeeded in calling attention to themselves through frequent calls to talk radio shows, e-mail messages to news organizations and a videotaped question at a Congressional town hall. The Associated Press said that Obama’s citizenship status had been one of the most popular topics for the wire service’s 'Ask AP' column."

A few months ago, Birthers numbered in the hundreds. Now, they number in the millions. Millions of Americans are demanding -- "Obama, show us the birth certificate"

FReeper "Hillary'sMoralVoid" says it is nearly impossible not to notice the widespread media attack on the birther movement. Nearly every major media network took part and even my local newspaper had a particularly hateful attack editorial on those questioning Obama's citizenship.

This could not happen by accident. Someone is getting too close to the truth, and the Obamamessiah must be feeling uncomfortable.

Here is a letter I sent to my local newspaper:

To the Editor,

The President has done everything in his power to keep his actual birth record a secret and has clearly been hiding something. A great controversy has arisen because of it, threatening his presidency.

No, it is not Barack Obama, it is Chester Arthur. We know today that he went to the extraordinary effort of burning some of his personal records to avoid controversy and possible removal from office.

There have been seven Presidents whose parents were born in foreign lands, and that is to be expected as we are a nation of immigrants. What distinguishes Obama and Arthur from the other five presidents is that one of their parents was not a citizen of the United States when they were born. In Chester Arthur's case, the father was a Canadian citizen. Of course, Barack Obama's father was a citizen of Kenya.

The founding fathers, beginning with a letter from John Jay to George Washington, expressed concerns about foreign influences on our elected president. From this beginning, the constitution established a "natural born citizen" as a person born of two citizens of the United States. Constitutional experts may debate this interpretation, but Chester Arthur's actions in covering up his birth records certainly indicate that he agreed with that definition. Location of birth may not matter as much as the citizen status of the parents, as John McCain's situation attests.

There are four indisputable facts that neither "birthers" nor "birther bashers" cannot deny:

• First, there has never been a constitutional interpretation and validation of Barack Obama's constitutional status as a "natural born citizen". This can only be done by the Supreme Court, but a responsible approach would have included an examination and reading of this BEFORE, not after his nomination and election.

• Second, the right of citizens to question their leaders, their political parties, their courts and their media is among the most sacred rights that we have -- it is that same right that brought down Richard Nixon. Describing efforts to raise legitimate questions as being a "silly canard," an "absurd controversy," a "pointless distraction," and "a lie" (as expressed in your editorial) are clearly counterproductive and un-American.

• Third, recent "converts" to the "birther" side of the argument, such as Lou Dobbs of CNN, have not been converted by the arguments of the birthers, but rather by the intransigence of the Obama administration to reveal any records that might help us undedrstand who Barack Obama is. This includes medical records, college transcripts, and his record is a Illinois legislator, to name a few and all of which are sealed. If the "birther movement" is growing, as it seems to be, Barack Obama is the one fueling the fire.

• Fourth, there are many irregularities that add fuel to the fire. For example, Obama personally claims, at different times, to be born at two different hospitals in Hawaii. The birth announcement, referred to in the first paragraph of the editorial, appeared in two different Hawaiian newspapers and contains a home address where the Obama family never lived, according long-term neighbors. These are just a couple of things that might be cleared up by the release of the actual birth certificate.

If an internet site, Factcheck.org, is sacred enough to view the alleged birth certificate, why should the American electorate be treated any less respectfully?

Although I have a couple of issues with HMV's interpretation of "natural born" citizen requirements -- they're small -- I thought his/her letter to the editor was well reasoned and deserved to be seen beyond FreeRepublic.com. Eligibility

Quick and to the point; according to Hawaiian law sb1326 any Law Enforcement Officer in the United States can access the vital statistics of the Hawaiian Government. Below is an excerpt from the Hawaiian law that regulates the release of records to law enforcement officers. Many people are very frustrated about Obama’s many secrets. As far as I know no one has attempted to obtain the birth records as part of an ongoing criminal investigation of election fraud. I think this should at least be attempted.
