Sahar Tartak, an Orthodox Persian Jewish student at Yale, has described to Congress how her school and other colleges have supported pro-Hamas protests, while allowing the intimidation of Jewish activist students like herself. Ms. Tartak was testifying before a House Higher Education Subcommittee hearing on "Confronting the Scourge of Antisemitism on Campus" in Washington on Tuesday.

She said that her activism at Yale had brought her death threats, and that she had been censored by the Ivy League university's newspaper.

During her opening statement, Ms. Tartak accused American academia of "turning its back" on Jewish students.

Westley Watende Omari Moore (born October 15, 1978) is an American politician, investment banker, author, nonprofit executive, and former television producer serving as the 63rd governor of Maryland since 2023.

Moore was born in Maryland and raised largely in New York. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received a master's degree from Wolfson College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. After several years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, Moore became an investment banker in New York. Between 2010 and 2015, Moore published five books, including a young adult novel. He won the 2022 Maryland gubernatorial election against Republican nominee Dan Cox, to become Maryland's first African-American governor, the third African-American person elected as governor of any U.S. state, and as of 2023, the only African-American incumbent governor of any U.S. state.^[3][4] Moore is the fifth African-American U.S. state governor overall following P. B. S. Pinchback of Louisiana, Douglas Wilder of Virginia, Deval Patrick of Massachusetts and David Paterson of New York.

Veteran Hollywood actor Jon Voight, father of Angelina Jolie, on Saturday expressed disappointment at his daughter’s recent condemnation of Israel’s offensive against the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip.

In an Instagram post on November 2 that has almost 4 million likes, Jolie slammed the campaign in Gaza as “the deliberate bombing of a trapped population” and “murder,” charging that world leaders were complicit in the crimes by blocking UN Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire.

Voight, a conservative who has made strong pro-Israel statements in the past, repeatedly stressed the religious aspect of the war, labeling it as a fight for the “justice of God’s children in the Holy Land,” in a video posted to X.

“I’m very disappointed in my daughter, like so many,” Voight said, adding that she did not understand the conflict was about the destruction of the Holy Land — “the Land of the Jews.”

Voight denounced the October 7 atrocities committed by Hamas as “inhuman terror on innocent babies, mothers, fathers, grandparents,” and slammed pro-Palestinian activists: “You fools call Israel the problem.”

“They’ve been given huge infusions of money, that they didn’t share with the people. They made weapons instead, for their rage,” Voight said, adding that Gazans “are prisoners of the barbaric country that use them as shields.”

“Hamas and this deceit of their ruling is destroying their own people,” he added.

He also hailed the “great heroism” of Jewish people in the face of a series of tragedies throughout history, from the Holocaust to the recent “Hamas Holocaust.”

In her Instagram post, Jolie shared a photo of a recent Israeli strike in the Strip’s north, saying: “Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children. Whole families are being murdered.”

She added: “By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties, world leaders are complicit in these crimes.”

Last year, Voight visited Israel and toured settlements in the West Bank, where he met Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council.

Dagan presented Voight with a bottle of wine from the Har Bracha winery and told him that it was “a great honor to host an important actor like you and more importantly a friend of Israel.”

According to a statement from the council, Voight said at the time: “I don’t understand why Judea and Samaria is called the West Bank, when it’s clear that if you look at a map Samaria is at the heart of the Land of Israel.”

During the 2014 war against Hamas, Voight penned an article in The Hollywood Reporter that slammed “obviously ignorant” actors Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz for attacking Israel.

Israel declared war with the aim of eradicating Hamas following the terror group’s devastating October 7 onslaught, in which some 1,400 people, mostly civilians, were brutally murdered in their homes and at a music festival, and over 240 more were abducted, including some 30 babies and children.

Report: Feds Investigating Christie’s Use Of Hurricane Sandy Funds For Tourism Ads

Federal officials are looking into whether New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) improperly put Hurricane Sandy relief funds towards Jersey Shore tourism ads, CNN reported Monday.

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) told CNN that federal auditors are expected to examine the state’s use of $25 million in Sandy relief funds to market the tourism campaign, which starred Christie and his family. Pallone asked the Department of Housing and Urban Development inspector general in August to look into how Christie spent the funds.

“This was money that could have directly been used for Sandy recovery,” the New Jersey congressman told CNN. “And, as you know, many of my constituents still haven’t gotten the money that is owed them to rebuild their homes or raise their homes or to help.”

Pallone wrote in his letter to HUD that he was concerned about the bidding process for the ads, according to CNN. The winning bid for the marketing plan featuring Christie, he noted, cost $2 million more than the losing firm’s proposal, which did not feature the governor and his family.

A Christie spokesman said Monday in a statement obtained by National Review that the ad campaign, titled “Stronger Than The Storm,” was “developed with the goal of effectively communicating that the Jersey Shore was open for business during the first summer after Sandy” and was approved by the Obama administration.

“Federal agency reviews are routine and standard operating procedure with all federally allocated resources to ensure that funds are distributed fairly,” Christie’s Deputy Communications Director Colin Reed said in the statement, as quoted by National Review. “We’re confident that any review will show that the ads were a key part in helping New Jersey get back on its feet after being struck by the worst storm in state history.”

Christie has been criticized for the tourism ads in the past: Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested that using taxpayer dollars to produce the Jersey Shore ads was a “conflict of interest.”

The probe is not connected to state or federal inquiries into the Christie administration’s involvement in the September lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

(LibertySociety.com) – The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a memo in October advising schools in several states to have a backup plan for providing milk to students. Milk is readily available, but Pactiv Evergreen, which manufactures the cartons, is facing “significantly higher than projected demand.”

International Dairy Foods spokesperson, Matt Herrick, said that the shortage is preventing the packaging company from fulfilling orders from schools. The company also manufactures milk cartons that are distributed in prisons, hospitals, and nursing homes. The manufacturer also makes cartons for a variety of juices that are served in schools and other facilities.

The USDA memo said that “multiple states” would be affected by the shortage, but states like New York, California, Washington, and Pennsylvania are taking proactive measures. School officials in California suggested using dry milk or offering limited choices. They also suggested using a milk dispenser and cups until a plentiful supply is available again. School officials in Clarence, New York, will offer bottled water or small cups of milk if they run out of cartons. The shortage of chocolate milk cartons has already affected one school district in Lake Stevens, Washington. Communications director Jayme Taylor said that she has only heard students complain about not having chocolate milk as an option for breakfast and lunch.

Officials from a school district in Everett Washington informed parents about the carton shortage, cautioning that milk could be in limited supply for the next several months. The USDA requires schools to provide milk to students but wrote in its memo that if other alternatives are not available, schools could stop serving milk until the issue is resolved. Herrick said other companies that offer similar packages are coordinating with milk suppliers to get more milk to students. He believes that the substitutions could provide a marked improvement over the next several weeks, which should be noticeable for schools. However, he said that the shortage may not be fully resolved until early next year.
