NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Suni Williams, who remained in space for nine months before their return to Earth last week, deserve to get the extra pay they're due, President Donald Trump agreed Friday, even if he has to pay it from his own pocket.

The astronauts, according to NASA will be paid only their regular pay and a $5 per diem pay for the 286 days they were in space — but not overtime, according to an article in The New York Times this week, totaling just $1,430 in extra pay for the time they had to wait before coming back home.

"Nobody has ever mentioned this to me, and if I have to, I will pay that out of my own pocket," Trump said during a press conference aired live on Newsmax. "I will pay it right out of my … is that all? That is not a lot for what they had to go through."

According to NASA, Williams and Wilmore, who remained on the International Space Station for 278 extra days after their return ride home malfunctioned, will be paid like any other government employee whose trip is extended.

"While in space, NASA astronauts are on official travel orders as federal employees," Jimi Russell, a spokesman for the agency's Space Operations Mission Directorate told the Times.

This means they are due no overtime, weekend or holiday pay.

But they would get the $5 a day "incidentals" allowance that federal employees get for travel expenses.

Their annual salary is just over $152,000 a year as astronauts, according to NASA.

Trump also praised SpaceX owner Elon Musk, after NASA used one of the company's ships to retrieve the astronauts.

"You know, there is only so long — even though they are in the capsule — [that] their bodies start to deteriorate, after nine or 10 months," Trump said. "It gets bad after 14 or 15 months with the bones and the blood and all the things. If we didn't have Elon … who else was going to get them?"

Trump, meanwhile, promised to protect Musk's other business interest, Tesla, which has come under attack from vandals who have recently set fire to dealerships, vehicles, and charging stations.

"He is going through a lot from what they are doing to him," Trump said. "These people will be prosecuted. From what they tell me … they could get 20 years in jail. They will get it. There will be no weakness, no leniency and no pardons, I can tell you that."

The Israelis have every right to be mad, ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner, D-Va., told "Face the Nation" of the leaked Signal chats to Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg, also a veteran of the Israeli Defense Forces.

When asked by the CBS News program if Israelis should be mad about the leak, Warner agreed, responding, "I have not seen any of the classified information about" a Houthi walking into his girlfriend's building.

"So, I'm basing my knowledge on open source. If the Israelis are this mad, and I think they gotta right to be this mad — about classified information being treated sloppily. And this is a pattern we have seen," Warner said about the Trump administration. He said those in the administration "expose CIA agents in the first two weeks; we have seen the DOGE boys print the full budget and head counts of a classified agency, so this is not a one-off.

"And what happens is, if the Israelis are this mad and the Five Eye partners — our key allies are upset — will they continue to share information with us if it is treated this sloppily?"

Warner then called for Trump national security adviser Mike Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign for the leaked Signal messages.

In the leaked messages, Vice President JD Vance told the other members of the Trump administration that the administration's aggressive posture toward Yemen might be a "mistake," ostensibly a political one, as he went on to add that only "3 percent of US trade runs through the Suez [Canal]. 40 [percent]of European trade does.

"There is a real risk that the public doesn't understand this or why it's necessary. The strongest reason to do this is, as POTUS said, [is] to send a message."

Waltz, meanwhile, has taken "full responsibility" for the leak. However, it is not clear at this time if Goldberg accessing the chat group was intentional or not. On Thursday, the chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., called for an inspector general investigation into the leak.

The negotiations, led by officials from India's commerce ministry and a U.S. trade delegation headed by Brendan Lynch, assistant U.S. trade representative for South and Central Asia, were held from March 26-29.

Separately, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau spoke with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri about efforts to reduce trade barriers and achieve a "fair and balanced bilateral trade relationship," while also strengthening defense and technology cooperation to bolster regional security.

Landau thanked India for its efforts in addressing illegal immigration to the United States and urged continued cooperation, the U.S. Department of State said in a statement.

The talks come as U.S. President Donald Trump prepares to impose reciprocal tariffs on multiple trading partners from April 2, with India hoping for an exemption amid the bilateral talks. Both countries aim to sign the first tranche of a bilateral trade deal by autumn.

"The successful conclusion of the discussions reflects progress in efforts to expand India-U.S. bilateral trade and investment relations to promote prosperity, security and innovation in both countries," a statement by India's commerce ministry said.

Last month, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington, India pledged to boost purchases of U.S. energy products and defense equipment, and the two sides agreed to aim for a deal targeting bilateral trade of $500 billion by 2030.

Trump has called India a "tariff king," with the U.S. wanting India to reduce levies on products ranging from agricultural goods and alcoholic beverages to automobiles, and seeking greater market access for U.S. companies.

Piyush Goyal, India's trade minister, visited Washington earlier this month for talks with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Sector-specific expert engagements for the bilateral trade agreement will begin virtually in the coming weeks, followed by an in-person negotiating round, the joint statement said.

The U.S. currently has a $45.6 billion trade deficit with India. While the U.S. trade-weighted average tariff rate stands at about 2.2%, India's average tariff is significantly higher at 12%, according to World Trade Organization data.
