The Environmental Protection Agency on Friday fired at least eight employees who signed a letter criticizing the agency's leadership under Administrator Lee Zeldin and President Donald Trump.

"Following a thorough internal investigation, EPA supervisors made decisions on an individualized basis,'' EPA spokeswoman Molly Vaseliou said Friday in a statement.

The declaration of dissent, signed by more than 170 employees in late June, "contains inaccurate information designed to mislead the public about agency business,'' Vaseliou said. "Thankfully, this represents a small fraction of the thousands of hard-working, dedicated EPA employees who are not trying to mislead and scare the American public."

The EPA "has a zero-tolerance policy for career officials using their agency position and title to unlawfully undermine, sabotage and undercut the will of the American public that was clearly expressed at the ballot box last November,'' she added.

Vaseliou declined to say how many employees were disciplined, but the head of the agency's largest union said at least six probationary employees who signed the letter were fired, along with at least two career employees. The firings were first reported by The Washington Post.

The EPA union, part of the American Federation of Government Employees, condemned the firings, which came after 139 workers were put on administrative leave shortly after signing the dissent declaration. The EPA at the time accused employees of "unlawfully undermining" the Trump administration's agenda.

"The Trump administration and EPA's retaliatory actions against these workers [were] clearly an assault on labor and free-speech rights,'' said Justin Chen, president of AFGE Council 238, which represents thousands of EPA employees.

More than 150 workers who were disciplined — up to and including termination — affected scientists, engineers, attorneys, contract officers, emergency response personnel "and a whole host of other jobs," Chen told The Associated Press. "They live and work in communities around the country, and all believe in the mission of the agency to protect human health and the environment on behalf of the American public."

In a letter made public June 30, the employees wrote that the EPA is no longer living up to its mission to protect human health and the environment. The letter represented rare public criticism from agency employees who knew they could face retaliation for speaking out.

Employees at other agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and Federal Emergency Management Agency, have issued similar statements. Some FEMA employees who signed a public letter of dissent earlier this week were put on administrative leave Tuesday, according to documents reviewed by The Associated Press.

More than 180 current and former FEMA employees signed the letter made public Monday. The statement criticized recent cuts to agency staff and programs and warned that FEMA's capacity to respond to a major disaster is dangerously diminished.

The EPA said last month it is eliminating its research and development arm and reducing agency staff by thousands of employees. Officials expect total staffing to go down to about 12,500, a reduction of more than 3,700 employees, or nearly 23%, from staffing levels when Trump took office in January.

https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/royce-white-minneapolis-mass-shooting/2025/08/29/id/1224429/

Former NBA star and Minnesota Republican U.S. Senate candidate Royce White told Newsmax that Minneapolis, Minnesota, is exemplified by the reactions from some political leaders to Wednesday's deadly school shooting there as "the belly of the beast."

White told "National Report" on Friday that after hearing Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey indicate he wasn't interested in prayers after the shooting, his first response was, "Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the belly of the beast, and we hate to have to talk politics or politicize, as they say certain things when they're as tragic as this is."

The New York Post reported that Minnesota Bishop Robert Barron was strongly critical of Frey dismissing prayer after the church attack.

White said, "In some sense, everything is politics. And the politics of Minneapolis and the politics of Minnesota are as dishonest as anywhere in the country."

White said, of course, the violence at the church school saddened him, and that he was praying for everyone involved. "So it's a dark time, and my thoughts and prayers are with these two children's families and all the families of the Annunciation Parish and our entire Christian Catholic community, as well as Minnesotans at large."

He said he's tired of liberals constantly deflecting bad things onto conservatives and President Donald Trump while failing to accept that liberal and progressive policies sometimes lead to bad events.

White said he is seeing the trend being challenged by a growing number of people, including those he met this week at the Minnesota State Fair. "Yesterday, we gave away 300 Jesus Is King shirts for free. And the response has been great. People, Christians and Catholics everywhere are starting to stand up and say enough is enough."

Police identified the Minneapolis church shooter as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who had identified as a transgender woman and claimed in writings to have brainwashed himself into being transgender. Police said Westman died by suicide at the scene of the shooting.

The Democratic Party's strategy of simply taking the opposite side of every issue President Trump supports isn’t working out very well for them — especially when it comes to public safety.

Since Trump called for National Guard units to assist Washington, D.C. police, the Democratic National Committee claimed that crime isn’t that big of a deal.

A speaker at Monday's DNC Summer Meeting in Minneapolis made that clear.

"Don't take the bait talking about migrant crime or carjackings or the things that actually don't matter to many Americans," said Insha Rahman, a vice president at the Vera Institute of Justice, a far-left Soros-funded think tank.

Rahman suggested that Democrats should instead discuss "the policy proposals that we think work," issues such as "cashless bail."

Violent crime may not matter to this Vera Institute vice president, but it's a pretty big deal to city residents.

Washington, D.C. has one of the highest murder rates among the major U.S. cities, with more than 100 homicides so far this year, an average of nearly three per week. There have been zero murders in the two weeks since the president federalized policing.

While Democrats are blasting the crackdown, local residents, like school teacher Elliot Reed, appreciate it.

"I think it’s a good thing because it actually reinforces the fact that America is secure, safe [and] stable," Reed said. "As a moderate, as a centrist, I think something needs to be done. I have three kids, I’m about to start teaching next week. I want it to be safe."

And yesterday Iris Tao, a White House Correspondent for NTD News, revealed that she'd been mugged and pistol whipped outside her apartment in the past, and thanked Trump in person.

"Mr. President, thank you so much for what you're doing right now," she said. "Thank you for now making D.C. safer for us, our families, and my baby on the way."

Trump's efforts have been so successful that he’s been talking about expanding the effort to other cities, beginning with Chicago. Mayor Brandon Johnson criticized the idea, claiming that traditional methods of crime fighting are unworkable.

"We cannot incarcerate our way out of violence; we've already tried that, and we've ended up with the largest prison population in the world without solving the problems of crime and violence," far-left Democrat Johnson said during a Monday press conference.

"The addiction on jails and incarceration in this country, we’ve moved past that. It is racist, it is immoral, it is unholy, and it is not the way to drive violence down."

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker also blasted Trump’s plan to deploy National Guard troops and accused him of being a "wannabe dictator."

"This is exactly the type of overreach that our country’s founders warned against," the Democratic governor said.

"What Trump is doing is unprecedented and unwarranted. It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. It is un-American," he remarked, adding that no Chicagoan wants their "neighborhood turned into a war zone by a wannabe dictator."

Too late. Many Chicago neighborhoods are already war zones — he should just ask his constituents.

"The National Guard has to come here, even if it's for scare tactics," said Zoe Leigh, a member of Chicago Flips Red. "There's no control. There's no law and order."

Robert Milan, a former assistant Cook County state's attorney, said it's important that National Guard troops work in concert with city police.

"You don’t want to have Chicago police doing their thing over here and National Guardsmen doing something somewhere else," he said.

Milan said they’d successfully tried something similar when Rahm Emmanuel was mayor, by combining Chicago police with Cook County Sheriff deputies in crime-ridden areas.

"You would see that in those areas; there would be no shootings at all. Really, really dangerous areas," he recalled. "We were listening to gang. . . on wiretaps, and they were saying, 'We really got to get out of here. Police are everywhere. We can’t do anything.'"

The running joke has been that each time Trump supports the 80% side of an 80/20 issue, Democrats take the 20% side rather than agree with him on anything. This time it's even worse for them.

According to polling cited by CNN, 91% of Washington, D.C. residents believe crime is either a moderate or an extreme problem, and Democrats are taking the side of the 9%.

Being openly pro-crime is never a winning strategy, so It's no wonder that Democrats are jumping ship and their funding is drying up.

The most basic function of government at any level — local, state, or federal — is to protect its citizens.

If Democrats can't agree on that, they deserve to go the way of the dodo bird and the woolly mammoth — as an extinct but interesting curiosity.
