G-20 Leaders Endorse 15 Percent Global Minimum Tax (You Are Being Played)

G-20 Leaders Endorse 15 Percent Global Minimum Tax (You Are Being Played)

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Saturday praised President Joe Biden and the other heads of state at the G-20 conference in Rome for formally adopting a 15% global corporate minimum tax rate that is estimated to bring in $150 billion a year globally.

"Today, every G20 head of state endorsed an historic agreement on new international tax rules, including a global minimum tax that will end the damaging race to the bottom on corporate taxation," Yellen said in a statement Saturday. "It's a critical moment for the U.S. and the global economy. I congratulate President Biden on this important achievement.

"This deal will remake the global economy into a more prosperous place for American business and workers. Rather than competing on our ability to offer lower rates, America will now compete on the skills of our people, our ideas, and our capacity to innovate — which is a race we can win."

The G-20 member nations, including the United States, China, France, Russia, and the United Kingdom, among others, are a mix of nations that have the largest economies in the world, representing about two-thirds of the world's population, 85% of the global domestic production, and 75% of global trade, according to the organization.

At Saturday's meeting in Rome, leaders spoke out in support of establishing a global minimum corporate tax rate of 15% that would be formally approved in a statement from the conference Sunday, and then would go to each individual nation to enact on their own.

According to a Reuters report, rules for the tax would be implemented by 2023, and would apply to large multi-national corporations like Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple, making it harder for them to establish offices in countries with a lower tax rate.

The adoption by the G-20 on Saturday comes after 136 nations agreed to a deal earlier this month on the 15% global rate.

"We call on the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development/G20 Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting to swiftly develop the model rules and multilateral instruments as agreed in the Detailed Implementation Plan, with a view to ensure that the new rules will come into effect at global level in 2023," the draft conclusions, seen by Reuters, read.

According to Forbes, the 15% rate will apply to multi-national companies with annual revenues of $865 million or more, and require companies that turn over $23 billion and have profit margins of 10% or more to pay taxes in the countries they sell goods or services in.

In the United States, Congress still must approve legislation to comply with the agreement, which could be tricky because America is home to 2,000 of the world's largest multinational corporations.

iden has been pushing to get the deal approved because it might prove a key revenue resource to help pass his two large legislative packages on infrastructure and his Build Back Better budget reconciliation bill.

Both plans, which could top $2-3 trillion in their final forms, are currently jammed in Congress with Democrats battling over what should be included in the bills, and what could be stripped out to reduce the price tag.

Tragic Accident? Or a Staged Act to Promote Gun Control? You Decide! Connecting the Gun Control Dots!

Alec Baldwin has been outspoken against gun rights activists

Baldwin accidentally shot and killed a cinematographer on set of his film 'Rust'

Alec Baldwin has a history of speaking out against gun rights activists.

Baldwin, 63, accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins Thursday in what he described as a "tragic accident" on the set of his film "Rust." The shooting also sent director Joel Souza to a hospital for emergency care. Souza has since been released.

Production for the film has been indefinitely halted.

In 2018, Baldwin joined a celebrity coalition, No Rifle Association (NoRA), whose goal was to shine a light on the National Rifle Association's alleged hold on the United States government.

"We’re going to shine a bright light on what you and your organization do to America," the NoRA Initiative wrote in a 2018 letter to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre (via Deadline). "We’re going to make sure the whole world sees your bloody hands. We’re coming for your money. We’re coming for your puppets. And we’re going to win."

The "It's Complicated" star has also gone after former NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch on social media.

"I see that @DLoesch wants to ‘take back the truth,'" Baldwin tweeted in 2018.

"And she doesn’t care how many dead bodies she has to step over in that pursuit. The Second Amendment is not a moral credit card that buys you all the guns you want. That law needs to be rethought."

Baldwin broke his silence on the death of Hutchins on social media Friday morning.

"There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours," Baldwin wrote.

"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred, and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son and all who knew and loved Halyna," he concluded.

Buttigieg on paternity leave since mid-August amid supply chain crunch, infrastructure debate

Buttigieg on paternity leave since mid-August amid supply chain crunch, infrastructure debate

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has made more public appearances recently

By Brooke Singman | Fox News

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/buttigieg-paternity-leave-supply-chain-infrastructure

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been on paternity leave since mid-August – with his time off coming amid the Biden administration's efforts to quell the supply chain crunch and the ongoing infrastructure debate on Capitol Hill to move forward with President Biden's agenda.

Buttigieg's office told Politico Playbook this week that he has been off since mid-August to spend time with his husband, Chasten, as they welcomed two newborn babies.

"For the first four weeks, he was mostly offline except for major agency decisions and matters that could not be delegated," a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation told Politico Playbook this week. "He has been ramping up activities since then."

The spokesperson said that as he slowly gets back to the grind, Buttigieg will "continue to take some time over the coming weeks to support his husband and take care of his new children."

Buttigieg's time off comes as the Biden administration grapples with supply chain bottlenecks and amid efforts to ease shipping backlogs.

Supply chain issues are a source of mounting concern as global economies attempt to meet surging demand and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Shortages of basic household items, such as toilet paper, raw materials needed for construction and critical tech components, like semiconductors, have contributed to a surge in prices for consumers.

The White House, this week, announced that the Port of Los Angeles will work as a 24/7 operation to help ease the bottleneck at the Port of Long Beach. Officials said Long Beach has been working 24/7 the past three weeks.

Administration officials said large companies have also committed to using expanded hours to move more cargo from docks so ships can come to shore faster and reduce congestion during the day.

The companies who made the commitments to expanded-hour models include Walmart, which will increase its nighttime hours. Senior administration officials said that increase could be up to 50% over the next several weeks. Others planning expanded nighttime hours are UPS, which is committing to an increased use of 24/7 operations and enhanced data sharing with ports that could allow it to move up to 20% more containers from ports, and FedEx, which may double the volume of cargo it can move from ports at night.

In addition to Walmart, UPS and FedEx, officials said Samsung is committing to move nearly 60% more containers out of the ports by operating 24/7 through the next 90 days. Home Depot is committing to move up to 10% additional containers per week. Target, which is moving about 50% of its containers at night, has committed to increasing that amount by 10% during the next 90 days to help ease congestion at the ports.

Officials said that across the six companies, more than 3,500 additional containers per week will move at night through the end of the year.

The White House this week said that Buttigieg and Port Envoy John Porcari will work with stakeholders and help more businesses access the expanded hours.

As for the infrastructure debate, Democrats are targeting the end of October to pass an infrastructure package and reconciliation. That timeline could slip into November or beyond amid the ongoing clashes between moderate and progressive Democrats on the size of the package and on reconciliation.
