Comer slammed the Biden administration for failing to respond to nearly two years of oversight requests from the House Oversight Committee — which Comer chairs — and requested information related to the budgets, names of staffers, internal communications and activities of Kerry’s office. The congressman threatened to take further action if the administration failed to respond by May 9, including “compulsory processes.”

John Kerry continues to negotiate deals with foreign governments, including the Chinese Communist Party, that potentially undermine the United States’ interests and the Biden Administration has refused to respond to Committee requests for information on Kerry’s powerful, unchecked position,” the House Oversight Committee wrote in a press release.

The committee in February called for Kerry to provide information regarding his negotiations with China, which the committee alleged “undermine” both U.S. economic interests and congressional authority. In Comer’s Tuesday letter, the committee questioned Kerry’s ability to negotiate binding agreements on behalf of the U.S., despite the fact his position did not require Senate confirmation.

“Envoy Kerry is engaging in activities that skirt congressional authority, threaten foreign policy under the guise of climate advocacy, and could undermine our economic health,” wrote Comer Monday. “Yet, Envoy Kerry and his office are refusing to be transparent about their activities, spending, and staffing with the Committee—and the American people.”

In early 2021, the Boston Herald filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the payrolls of Kerry’s staff, which the State Department estimates will not be completed until late 2024, despite the availability of the relevant records, according to the outlet.

Comer’s office directed a Daily Caller News Foundation request for comment to the Oversight Committee’s statement. The White House did not immediately respond to a DCNF request for comment.

The former Fox host ridiculed top DoD leaders over Biden-era policies.

From maternity flight suits to diversity policies to Ukraine aid, the military was a favorite punching bag for Tucker Carlson. Now that he’s off the air, some Pentagon officials are quietly cheering his departure.

Carlson’s criticism of Biden-era personnel policies appealed to many of the rank-and-file, which has a large bloc of conservative members. But at the upper levels of the Defense Department, news of Carlson’s firing from Fox News on Monday was met with delight and outright glee in some corners.

“We’re a better country without him bagging on our military every night in front of hundreds of thousands of people,” said one senior DoD official, who like others interviewed for this story was granted anonymity to discuss a politically sensitive topic.

“Good riddance,” said a second DoD official.

Asked to respond to the news that DoD officials are pleased by his departure from Fox, Carlson responded by text message: “Ha! I’m sure.” He declined to comment further.

The tension between the former cable host and Pentagon leadership isn’t new. Carlson drew the ire of top DoD officials early in the Biden administration for personal attacks on a number of military leaders, as well as ridiculing the armed forces’ efforts to increase diversity. A slew of conservative leaders quickly followed Carlson’s lead, giving rise to a small but vocal minority that to this day continues to hammer DoD officials, saying they’re focusing personnel policies at the expense of preparing for war. The Pentagon says only a small percentage of troops’ time is spent on diversity training.

Most memorably, Carlson’s remarks disparaging female service members in March 2021 prompted a rare rebuke from then-Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby.

After President Joe Biden announced new efforts to recruit and keep women in the service — including designing new body armor, updating requirements for hairstyles and the nominations of two female generals to become combatant commanders — at a White House ceremony, Carlson accused the commander in chief of making a “mockery” of the troops.

“So, we’ve got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits. Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It’s a mockery of the U.S. military,” he said.

In response, Kirby took a rare swipe at the Fox News host.

“What we absolutely won’t do is take personnel advice from a talk show host or the Chinese military,” Kirby said during a briefing with reporters, adding that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin “shares the revulsion” of others who criticized Carlson’s remarks.

The comments yielded another rarity: The Pentagon’s in-house news service published an article focused entirely on the dust-up: “Press Secretary Smites Host That Dissed Diversity in U.S. Military.”

Kirby, who is now the top spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House, declined to comment for this story.

The Fox News host targeted the Air Force in particular, calling Lt. Gen. Brad Webb, then-commander of Air Education and Training Command, a “doughy moron” for updating pilot tests to address systemic racism. He also mocked Maj. Gen. Ed Thomas, head of the Air Force’s recruiting office, for arguing that the service’s pilot force needs to become more diverse.

Carlson “made a mockery” of the free press and “repeatedly cherry-picked department policies and used them to destroy DoD as an institution,” said the first senior DoD official.

One general who clashed with Carlson on social media during the episode, Maj. Gen. Patrick Donahoe, had his retirement delayed for several months while the Army conducted a probe of the exchanges.

While several military leaders sent messages in support of women in the services without naming Carlson, Donahoe tweeted that the host “couldn’t be more wrong.” That prompted Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to send a letter to Austin accusing Donahoe and other military leaders of expressing partisan views.

The saga ended in January with no action taken against Donahoe, who tweeted Monday’s news about Carlson’s exit with the message, “I have thoughts.” Donahoe declined to comment for this story.

Special Forces Swiftly Evacuate US Embassy Staff From Sudan

U.S. special operations forces carried out a precarious evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Sudan on Sunday, sweeping in and out of the capital with helicopters on the ground for less than an hour. No shots were fired and no major casualties were reported.

With the final embassy employee out of Khartoum, the United States shuttered its diplomatic mission indefinitely. Remaining behind in the East African nation are thousands of private American citizens. U.S. officials said it would be too dangerous to carry out a broader evacuation operation.

Battles between two rival Sudanese commanders had forced the closing of the main international airport and left roads out of the country in control of armed fighters. The skirmishes has killed more than 400 people.

In a statement thanking the troops, President Joe Biden said he was receiving regular reports from his team on efforts to assist remaining Americans in Sudan “to the extent possible.”

He also called for the end to “unconscionable” violence there.

About 100 U.S. troops in three MH-47 helicopters carried out the operation. They airlifted all of roughly 70 remaining American employees from a landing zone at the embassy to an undisclosed location in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia also provided overflight and refueling support, said Molly Phee, assistant secretary of state for African affairs.

Biden said Djibouti and Saudi Arabia provided assistance, too.

“I am proud of the extraordinary commitment of our Embassy staff, who performed their duties with courage and professionalism and embodied America’s friendship and connection with the people of Sudan,” Biden said in a statement. “I am grateful for the unmatched skill of our service members who successfully brought them to safety.”

U.S. Africa Command and the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, Gen. Mark Milley, were in contact with the factions before and during the operation to ensure that U.S. forces would have safe passage to conduct the evacuation. John Bass, an undersecretary of state, denied claims by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Security Forces that it assisted in the U.S. evacuation.

“They cooperated to the extent that they did not fire on our service members in the course of the operation," Bass said.

Biden had ordered American troops to evacuate embassy personnel after receiving a recommendation from his national security team, with no end in sight to the fighting.

“This tragic violence in Sudan has already cost the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians. It’s unconscionable and it must stop,” Biden said. “The belligerent parties must implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, allow unhindered humanitarian access, and respect the will of the people of Sudan.”

Sudan's fighting broke out April 15 between two commanders who just 18 months earlier jointly orchestrated a military coup to derail the nation’s transition to democracy.

The power struggle between the armed forces chief, Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, and the head of the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group, Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, has millions of Sudanese cowering inside their homes.

The violence has included an unprovoked attack on an American diplomatic convoy and numerous incidents in which foreign diplomats and aid workers were killed, injured or assaulted.

An estimated 16,000 private U.S. citizens are registered with the embassy as being in Sudan. The figure is rough because not all Americans register with embassy or say when they depart.

The embassy issued an alert earlier Saturday cautioning that “due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and closure of the airport, it is not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens.”

The U.S. evacuation planning for American employees of the embassy got underway in earnest on Monday after the embassy convoy was attacked in Khartoum. The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that U.S. troops were being moved to Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti ahead of a possible evacuation.

Embassy evacuations conducted by the U.S. military are relatively rare and usually take place only under extreme conditions. When it orders an embassy to draw down staff or suspend operations, the State Department prefers to have its personnel leave on commercial transportation if that is an option.

When the embassy in Kyiv temporarily closed just before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, 2022, staffers used commercial transport to leave.

In several other recent cases, notably in Afghanistan in 2021, conditions made commercial departures impossible or extremely hazardous. U.S. troops accompanied personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, in an overland convoy to Tunisia when they evacuated in 2014.

Carlson's Ouster Followed Calls by AOC, Schumer

Newsmax.com

By Eric Mack    |   Monday, 24 April 2023 02:44 PM EDT

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/aoc-tucker-carlson-chuck-schumer/2023/04/24/id/1117324/

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., implored Rupert Murdoch to deplatform the conservative views of Tucker Carlson, while Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., condemned Carlson for "incitement of violence," and Fox News followed suit.

Murdoch, co-chair of the Fox Corporation and the executive chair of News Corp, was given the warning just weeks ago outside the Senate chamber by Schumer, who said Murdoch has "a special obligation to stop Tucker Carlson," saying the former TV host has "perverted and slimed the truth."

"And for letting him go on again, and again, and again," Schumer continued. "Not because their views deserved such opprobrium but because our democracy depends on it."

Then, this weekend, former President Joe Biden's previous White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, asked AOC whether conservative networks should be held "accountable" for their reporting. And AOC full-throatedly backed the censorship of Carlson's views.

"I believe that when it comes to broadcast television, like Fox News, these are subject to federal law, federal regulation in terms of what's allowed on air and what isn't," AOC told Psaki. "And, when you look at what Tucker Carlson and some of these other folks on Fox do, it is very, very clearly incitement of violence."

Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy denounced the "establishment" turn of his network's leading conservative news competitor.

"For a while Fox News has been moving to become establishment media and Tucker Carlson's removal is a big milestone in that effort," Ruddy wrote in a statement. "Millions of viewers who liked the old Fox News have made the switch to Newsmax and Tucker's departure will only fuel that trend."

Warren Buffett Worried Over Nuclear War, Pandemics — Not Stocks (Connecting the Dots: Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway Inc, Nuclear Threat Initiative & Soros Funding, All Networking)

By Charles Kim    |   Saturday, 22 April 2023 01:02 PM EDT

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/buffett-money-banking/2023/04/22/id/1117139/

Warren Buffett, America's greatest billionaire stock investor, says the threat of a nuclear war and future pandemics — and not his company or the economy — keeps him up at night.

Talking recently on CNBCs "Squawk Box" about his conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett says his firm is fine but other threats are concerning.

"Well, at 92 I've got other things to worry about. I don't worry about [Berkshire Hathaway's] ability," Buffett said.

"There's things I worry about. Sure. I worry about the nuclear threat. I worry about a pandemic in the future ... But I don't worry about them because I can't do anything about them. ... I never go to bed worried about Berkshire and how we'll handle a thing."

Buffett bought the failing Berkshire Hathaway textile company in 1965 and turned it into the world's most successful holding company, worth an estimated $700 billion in market capitalization. His personal net worth is estimated over $113 billion.

Buffett's comments come at a time the U.S. faces a growing risk of a nuclear confrontation with Russia, China, North Korea, or Iran.

Recently, the U.N.'s disarmaments chief warned that the world faces the higher risk of a nuclear incident or worse since the end of the Cold War.

As Russia's war against Ukraine continues, President Vladmir Putin and his government have not ruled out the use of nuclear weapons.

Numerous pro-government commentators in Moscow have called for using nuclear weapons against Ukraine, NATO countries like Poland and Britain, and the United States.

Recently, Putin has ordered nuclear weapons to be moved into Belarus, closer to NATO, while conducting war games using nuclear submarines and hypersonic missiles in simulated attacks against Western nations.

As for the recent spate of bank failures that began with Silicon Valley Bank, Buffett said he doesn't believe the country is finished with the crisis, though he doesn't think the individual depositors will suffer.

"We're not through with bank failures. But we're through [with] the depositor — depositors haven't had a crisis," he said.

"The owners of banks may have lost a hell of a lot of money. The people who bought the debt of the ... holding company ... they may lose a lot of money. People can ... lose a lot of money.

"But the depositors aren't going to, so you don't need to turn a dumb decision by managers into a panicking the whole citizenry of the United States about something they don't need to be panicked about."

During his CNBC interview, Buffett said his family members are invested in his company, and he is confident about running it properly to live up to that responsibility.

"I've got all my relatives in. I've got everybody in," he said. "If I thought that I wasn't going to be able to do a decent job of managing the risk — a better than decent job — I'd be crazy to take on that responsibility."

What is the Facebook Data Privacy Settlement and How Do I Get Paid?

A $725 million class action lawsuit has been settled with Facebook, re-branded to Meta Platforms, Inc. As of April 2023, many users are reporting receiving a notification when logging in their Facebook accounts notifying them about the new Facebook privacy class action settlement and are wondering if it is real. In this article we'll discuss how Facebook users can qualify to earn cash in the $725,000,000 settlement.
The original Meta class action lawsuit revolved around allegations that Facebook (Meta Platforms, Inc.) shared troves of user data with third parties without getting appropriate permissions from Facebook users. Additionally, the class action attorneys in the lawsuit made arguments that Facebook did not properly monitor third party use of Facebook user data. There were several lawsuit combined into one umbrella class action. The original lawsuits over this Facebook data infringement of privacy rights was consolidated into a large $725,000,000 class action settlement, under one umbrella as a single case: Facebook, Inc. Consumer privacy User Profile Litigation. These numerous lawsuits brought to the Court's attention that Facebook was sharing user data with third parties. Some of the listed third parties included:
• Third-Party App Developers,
• Facebook or Meta Business Partners,
• Meta Advertisers,
• Data Brokers,
• Whitelisted Parties
The Meta settlement is the single largest data privacy class action in U.S. history, with the aim of resolving investigations and lawsuits stemming from the 2016 election scandal over Facebook's sharing of over 87 million users' data with a third-party called Cambridge Analytica. Cambridge Analytica was revealed to be connected with Donald Trump's 2016 Presidential campaign. According to class action attorneys in the Facebook case, Cambridge Analytica used user data without their permission in order to harvest and profile voters to target and influence the 2016 presidential election in Donald Trump's favor. In effect, Facebook's third-party data harvesting on behalf of a political consultancy is at the center of the investigations and class action lawsuits into Facebook's conduct when it comes to user data governance. Cambridge Analytica has been shuttered since the scandal broke.
Meta Platforms, Inc. has chosen to settle the $725 Million user data privacy class action, but in doing so has not accepted any liability for its actions or admitted to any wrongdoing. The Court has also not made any judgment or decision as to the righteousness of Facebook's actions with user data and its sharing of private user data with numerous third parties. Facebook expressed that the settlement is in the best interest of Meta's community, as well as its shareholders of its nearly $600 Billion evaluation stock price as of April 2023.

A History of Facebook Class Action Settlements

In addition to the $725 data privacy class action settlement, Facebook has agreed to pay a $5 Billion fine to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission of the United States), a $100 Million settlement with the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) and may be facing future lawsuits and settlements related to data privacy since the $725M Meta Settlement does not cover United Kingdom Facebook users. Facebook also has a long history of separate class action settlements related to user privacy violations. Two of the most massive and recent Facebook settlements were:
• $90 Million Facebook User Track Class Action - Facebook agreed to pay $90,000,000 to Facebook users whose data was allegedly tracked and improperly collected when visiting websites other than Facebook.com. The settled class action lawsuit alleges that Facebook obtained and collected data from Facebook users in the United States who visited non-Facebook websites that displayed the Facebook Like button. Those external sites allowed Facebook to collect data from Facebook users even while they were not on Facebook.com without user consent.
• $650 Million Facebook Privacy Settlement - In a landmark class action settlement, Facebook agreed to fund $650,000,000 for a class action fund to be distributed to qualifying Facebook users. Facebook ended up paying $397 to hundreds of thousands of Facebook users whose privacy rights may have been violated by Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms, Inc. The settlement fund was agreed upon as the result of a class action lawsuit against facebook for violating Illinois Privacy laws - this law is called BIPA, or the Biometric Information Protection Act.

How do I qualify for the Meta Class Action?

You may qualify for compensation from the Meta data privacy class action if you were a United States Facebook user during the following time: May 24, 2007 through December 22, 2022.
How much will I get paid for the Meta class action?

The longer you were a Facebook user, the more you can expect to be paid. The Facebook class action fund will pay out $725,000,000 after administrative costs such as court fees and lawyer compensation. Once the Court, as well as counsel are paid, the remaining Facebook settlement funds are referred to as the net settlement fund remaining. This remaining fund will be distributed proportionally among the class action claimants that filed valid and timely claim forms (see link below). The amount you get paid will also be determined by how long you were a Facebook user during the qualifying period, which is from May 24, 2007 through December 22, 2022.
Do I Need Proof to File a Settlement Claim?

No, the Facebook / Meta Class Action Settlement does not require proof of purchase for a valid claim. If you have a Facebook account you will need to provide information such as the Facebook email associated with the account, as well as the phone number and/or the username. However, if you have deleted your Facebook account, you can provide the dates for which your account was active without any additional proof.

What If I Don't Qualify for the Facebook Class Action Settlement?

A popular Hollywood actor has testified in federal court that a fugitive fraudster discussed with him plans for a "secret $30 million foreign donation to Obama" during the Democrat's run for re-election in 2012.

"And no one's talking about it," reported Jack Montgomery, a former Europe editor for Breitbart London, in a new report at National Pulse.

Leonardo DiCaprio testified in federal court last week that fugitive Malaysian fraudster Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, wanted to donate tens of millions of dollars to the Democrats during Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012.

He explained DiCaprio told a federal court, in a hearing at which "fugitive Malaysian fraudster Low Taek Jho" was mentioned, how the wanted man discussed his idea to donate the huge sum to Democrats that year.

Montgomery pointed out that for comparison, "the total amount spent by the government of Russia in their microscopic Facebook 'interference' case of 2016 was just $150,000, though the U.S. government managed to spend in excess of $32 million investigating the matter."

The hearing was in a case involving Fugees rapper Prakazrel 'Pras' Michel, who is accused by the DOJ of failing to register as an agent of the Chinese government, and of facilitating transfer of money from Low, now in hiding, to Obama.

DiCaprio already has been questioned by the FBI over his own links to Low, and testified the fugitive held "lavish parties" which he sometimes attended.

"It was at one of these events that the plan to bankroll Obama was revealed," the report confirmed.

The actor said, "It was a casual conversation about what party he was in support of" and Low responded with plans for a "significant donation" estimated at up to $30 million, to Democrats.

"I said, ‘Wow that’s a lot of money!'"

Low is wanted in his home country for allegedly embezzling $4.5 billion from the state fund Development Berhad.

But as a foreigner, he's banned from influencing American elections through donations, Montgomery confirmed.

Reuters reported the financier helped sponsor "The Wolf of Wall Street," for which DeCaprio, whose film credits also include "Titanic," was nominated for an Oscar.

The claims by prosecutors in the pending case are that Michel agreed to transfer money from Low into Obama's campaign and hide the donation.

The report said, "DiCaprio said he flew on Low's private jet with a large group one New Year's Eve between Australia and Las Vegas, in what he said was Low's goal of celebrating New Year's twice in one night."

Forbes reported the case involves claims Michel conspired with Low on money laundering, campaign finance violations and more.

Low is not on trial as he is believed to be hiding in China.

DeCaprio is not accused of any wrongdoing in the case, either.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who led the country between 2009 and 2018, earlier was convicted of corruption and money laundering for taking money from the wealth fund and using hundreds of millions of dollars for luxury goods, including a private jet, superyacht and jewelry.

He's now serving prison time. A former Goldman Sachs banker also was convicted and sentenced for his part in the scandal.

Michel is a founding member of the hip-hop group Fugees alongside Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean. They have sold more than 22 million records.
