The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday morning issued an emergency use authorization for Merck’s antiviral pill for COVID-19, more than 12 hours after giving the green light for a similar, oral drug made by Pfizer.

Merck’s drug, named molnupiravir, was developed with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, and it was shown to reduce hospitalizations and deaths from 9.7 percent to 6.8 percent in clinical trials of high-risk individuals, according to the federal drug regulator.

US and China Collaborated to Make a Deadly Coronavirus

US and China Collaborated to Make a Deadly Coronavirus

In less than a week after Dr. Breggin and Ginger Breggin broke the news about the combined American and Chinese research that created a deadly SARS-Corona virus in 2015, Donald Trump heard about and cancelled funding for the ongoing project. See the Breggin's Coronavirus Resource Center on www.breggin.com for all the latest information, reports and videos. US and Chinese researchers, funded by the United States and Chinese governments, teamed up to create a deadly new coronavirus that is extremely similar in its effects to the coronavirus that is causing the current pandemic. The research is described in detail in a December 2015 scientific article published in prestigious Nature Medicine. The article and PDFs of its entire bibliography can be found on www.breggin.com, along with a blog by Dr. Breggin about the implications. In this video, Dr. Breggin describes how the American/Chinese manufactured coronavirus mimicked nearly all aspects of SARS-CoV-2, including pneumonia, increasing lethality in older and/or infirm mice and resistance to treatment. The research also sounds a warning that the manmade 2015 virus was resistant to vaccines. It is beyond belief that the US has funded a collaboration with China involving the creation of a coronavirus that has all the attributes of a devastating biological weapon. The Chinese were from the now-infamous Wuhan Institute which was known to have two potentially deadly hazards: poor safety measures and direct connections to the Chinese military. NIH, including the Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, continued support for the research even after warnings about its dangers were sounded by the research community. Target Sparks Outrage Among Conservatives, Cancels ‘Shop with a Cop’ Event

Target Sparks Outrage Among Conservatives, Cancels ‘Shop with a Cop’ Event

By Editorial Staff -December 26, 2021

Anti-cop liberals who make important decisions for Target have reached a new low, according to Sheriff Rick Staly in Florida.

Target, which is viewed favorably by Democrats at 71 percent, once made national news after announcing customers may select their restroom or fitting room by choosing their gender identity. This policy remains in effect.

For 10 years, police officers and children have gathered during the Christmas season for a “Shop with a Cop” event in Flagler County, FL.

This event was made possible through a partnership with Target.

Children who normally might not receive any presents on Christmas morning had an opportunity to experience a heartwarming Christmas event and receive presents.

Target corporate officers initially expressed support for the event, Sheriff Rick Staly explained.

But then in a disgusting move, an unexpected email came to the sheriff’s office on Oct. 6th, Staly says.

Target not only canceled the event, but they canceled the entire partnership.

Police officers took matters into their own hands and turned to Walmart. Walmart welcomed the police officers “with open arms,” according to the sheriff.

Polls show Walmart’s net favorability leans GOP with 69% support among Republicans.

In his letter to the corporation, Staley communicated in no uncertain terms how his office felt about the news, and he made it public.

“We worked with your local Palm Coast store, selected a date and your employees were once again excited to participate,” Staly wrote.

“Then on October 6, 2021 my staff received an email abruptly cancelling the partnership. We were told Target ‘retired’ the ‘Heroes & Helpers’ program and was ‘introducing a new give-back program to serve our communities, anchored to our purpose of helping families discover the joy of everyday life. We’ll be expanding our impact and reach, partnering directly with local nonprofits organizations across the country to provide families in need with essentials, gifts and more.’

“When we informed Target staff that Flagler Sheriff’s Children’s Charities was a nonprofit 501(C)(3) the email was ignored and no response was received.”

The sense of betrayal ran deep. Staly accused the Target Corporation of “propaganda,” arguing the company was giving mere lip service to its values regarding their public safety partnerships, community engagement and being “a shining example of public-private partnership.”

He also accused Target of following “the pathway of political convenience” and said the company was displaying “‘Grinch’ like behavior.”

So the sheriff’s office did what many people disenchanted with Target do: Turned to Walmart, which the sheriff said welcomed them “with open arms.”

Thanks to generous donors, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office employees and Walmart, over 100 children were still able to go Christmas shopping, each one receiving $175 to shop for themselves and their families., Staly wrote.

“On December 10, 2021, we took over 125 culturally diverse children partnered with over 125 law enforcement, corrections and professional support employees shopping,” Staly wrote. “Starting with a party, train rides, face painting, crafts, games and much more they rode in patrol cars with lights flashing and sirens blaring to Walmart (ironically, we drove by Target on our way to Walmart).”

History

Early examples of international courts include the Nuremberg and Tokyo tribunals established in the aftermath of World War II. Several such international courts are presently located in The Hague in the Netherlands, most importantly the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the International Criminal Court (ICC). Further international courts exist elsewhere, usually with their jurisdiction restricted to a particular country, a global or regional intergovernmental or supranational organisation, or historic issue, such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda that deals with the genocide in Rwanda. In addition to international tribunals created to address crimes committed during genocides and civil war, ad hoc courts and tribunals combining international and domestic strategies have also been established on a situational basis. Examples of these “hybrid tribunals” are the Special Court for Sierra LeoneSpecial Tribunal for LebanonSpecial Panels of the Dili District Court in East Timor, and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia

On August 15, 2021, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) (also known as the Taliban) came to power in Afghanistan. The health system continues to be strained by the ongoing economic instability. A long drought has also extended the season of peak malnutrition, and parts of the country have seen an uptick in measles cases. Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) continues to run activities in all five of its projects in Lashkar Gah, Kunduz, Kandahar, Herat, and Khost. There's been an increase in the number of patients across several projects, in part because people are now able to travel more to the few health facilities that are still open. MSF has around 100 international staff and 2,300 Afghan colleagues working in the country.

NY hospital CEOs jump in to help Cuomo with nursing home scandal spin (All roads lead to Soros)

NY hospital CEOs jump in to help Cuomo with nursing home scandal spin

By Bernadette Hogan, Carl Campanile and Bruce Golding

February 26, 2021 7:15pm  Updated

https://nypost.com/2021/02/26/ny-hospital-ceos-back-cuomo-amid-nursing-home-scandal-spin/

The CEOs of five major New York City hospitals came to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s aid by issuing a statement in support of a controversial directive for nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients — after their industry pushed for it.

A senior-care insider said Friday that nursing homes weren’t consulted before the March 25 mandate was issued and that it “obviously came from the hospitals.”

“Who else would come up with that, other than the hospitals?” the source said.

Jim Clyne, president of Leading Age New York — which represents nursing homes and other residential facilities for seniors — also said, “No one talked to me” before the state Health Department issued the directive.

In an 800-plus-word statement, the hospital CEOs said the since-rescinded order was a “prudent and safe option” to free up beds at their facilities during the first wave of the pandemic.

“It is an everyday practice for hospitals to discharge stable, medically recovered patients to nursing homes so long as the nursing home can safely care for the patient,” their statement said.

“This is true even of infectious patients who are medically stable, if proper precautions are taken.”

The executives who signed the statement include Mount Sinai Health System CEO Kenneth Davis, who The Post revealed was isolated in a waterfront mansion near Palm Beach, Fla., at the time the mandate was issued — and while desperate nurses at Mount Sinai West were wearing trash bags to protect themselves from infection.

Also signing it were Northwell Health CEO Michael Dowling — a former state official and longtime Cuomo adviser — as well as NewYork-Presbyterian CEO Steven Corwin, NYU Langone Health CEO Robert Grossman and Montefiore Medicine CEO Philip Ozuah.

The CEOs’ retroactive prescription for the directive — which critics blame for spreading infections among highly vulnerable seniors — was made in a press release late Wednesday afternoon, ahead of Thursday’s grilling of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker at a legislative budget hearing.

It also appears to have been part of a two-pronged, public-relations blitz that involved a 1,700-plus-word statement and conference call with reporters by Cuomo aide Steven Cohen, who repeated many of the governor’s talking points.

But the efforts didn’t inoculate Zucker against repeated attacks from outraged lawmakers, including state Sen. Tom O’Mara (R-Elmira), who demanded to know who ordered that the total number of nursing home deaths from COVID-19 be kept from the public.

Zucker declined to answer that question, citing an “ongoing investigation” by federal authorities that was reportedly sparked by The Post’s revelation of the cover-up.

Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens) — who has called for Cuomo’s impeachment over the cover-up and demanded that he and the state Democratic Committee return $10 million in donations from the hospital industry — accused the governor of “hiding behind his loyalists.”

“The governor can’t gaslight the public out of this,” Kim said.

“That is why we need an independent commission with subpoena power to investigate the decisions the Cuomo administration made in nursing homes.”

Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-Tarrytown) also said, “Clearly, the Cuomo administration is attempting to justify a bad decision after the fact, after it’s being criticized.”

“The mere introduction of COVID patients violates the basic medical practice of keeping people safe,” said Abinanti, a member of the Assembly Health Committee.

“There was not medical science to demonstrate that this would do no harm and, after the fact, they’re scrambling to justify a decision.”

Cuomo hasn’t appeared in public since widespread, bipartisan outrage erupted Wednesday over new sexual harassment allegations by former aide Lindsey Boylan, now a Democratic candidate for Manhattan borough president.

The Greater New York Hospital Association — which represents more than 160 hospitals and health system, including those whose CEOs issued Wednesday’s statement — said, “As has been widely reported, GNYHA sought assistance from the State on the proper discharge of COVID-19 patients who no longer required hospital care.”

“This was requested against the backdrop of the State’s directive that hospitals immediately and significantly increase bed capacity to make room for an anticipated surge of critically ill COVID-19 patients,” the GNYHA added.

Northwell Health declined to comment but neither Cuomo’s office nor Mount Sinai, New York-Presbyterian, NYU Langone nor Montefiore immediately returned requests for comment.

The Health Department said, “There are politics and there are facts. This letter clearly outlines science-based conclusions from leadership at some of the finest healthcare institutions in the world who did everything they could to help lead this state through the darkest days of this pandemic.”

CNN has been in hot water lately following the termination of its star anchor Chris Cuomo over his disturbing ties to sexual misconduct allegations.

In a separate matter, Dustin Hice has filed a lawsuit against CNN anchor Don Lemon.

After a prolonged legal process, the case is expected to be in court early next year.

Lemon, who is openly gay, is accused in the suit of committing sexual assault and battery at a bar on New York’s Long Island. The incident allegedly occurred in the summer of 2018.

Hice told Fox News that CNN is “a network rife with predators and perverts.”

“Lemon will have to testify under oath in the near future, but it’s good to see that there’s finally some accountability happening,” he continued.

Lemon allegedly putting his hand down the front of his shorts, “vigorously” rubbing his genitalia, and then allegedly shoved the same hand into Hice’s mustache area. Lemon is also accused of asking a vulgar question while putting his hand in Hice’s face.

Hice says he’s looking for closure and peace of mind following what he describes as a horrific encounter..=

CNN has stood by Lemon, Fox News reports.

CNN boss Jeff Zucker is also accused of standing by Chris Cuomo despite having knowledge of Chris’ involvement in his brother’s inner circle amid alarming sexual misconduct allegations.

“This is who they are. They’re a predator-protecting machine, they slander and smear victims with impunity,” Hice added.

Hice says he turned down multiple settlement offers.

“They’ve tried to grind me down, they’ve attempted to intimidate witnesses in my case, they’ve released confidential information about me in attempt to doxx me. They are complicit. This is who they are,” Hice said.

The ‘stench’ of politicization: Sonia Sotomayor’s supreme court warning

Oral arguments over the Mississippi abortion case this week showed the threat to Roe v Wade from an increasingly politicized court

Ed Pilkington

Sat 4 Dec 2021 02.00 EST

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/dec/04/us-supreme-courrt-sonia-sotomayor-abortion

About 11 minutes into this week’s hearing on abortion rights at the US supreme court, the floor was taken by Sonia Sotomayor, one of the three beleaguered liberal-leaning justices left on the court after its sharp rightward shift under Donald Trump.

Sotomayor began by noting that in the past 30 years no fewer than 15 justices of all political backgrounds had supported the right to an abortion up to the point of fetal viability. Only four had objected.

Now after so many years of relative consensus, the legality of abortion enshrined in the landmark 1973 ruling Roe v Wade and reaffirmed in 1992 in Planned Parenthood v Casey was suddenly on the line.

Politicians in Mississippi, Sotomayor remarked (while leaving it unsaid that they were rightwing Republicans), had devised new legislation to ban abortions after just 15 weeks of pregnancy. By these politicians’ own admission, their bills were targeted specifically at the three new justices on the supreme court (all appointed by Trump, though she left that unspoken too).

Then she went in for the kill.

She addressed the danger posed by the court’s sudden and apparently politically motivated change of heart not just to abortion rights but to the rule of law itself.

If the nation’s highest court, with its newly constituted Trumpian majority, were to go along with the ploy set for it by Mississippi and throw out half a century of settled law affirming a woman’s right to choose, then what would happen to the court’s legitimacy as a place in American democracy that rises above the cut and thrust of grubby partisanship?

“Will this institution survive the stench that this creates in the public perception that the constitution and its reading are just political acts?” she said. “I don’t see how it is possible.”

Stench. The word ricocheted off the august walls of the courtroom like a bullet.

“It was a shocking moment,” said Sherrilyn Ifill, director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. “An unadorned recognition of the legitimacy issues that are clearly preoccupying a number of the justices.”

For Stephen Vladeck, a professor of constitutional law at the University of Texas at Austin, the takeaway of this week’s hearing was not how many justices were preoccupied with the reputational damage facing an increasingly politicised court, but how few. “To me, the single most distressing feature of Justice Sotomayor’s arguments was how little anyone else seemed to care,” he told the Guardian.

Vladeck said he was dismayed by the “casualness with which so many of the justices seemed to be taking an issue that is so central to so many women. A ruling that gets rid of Roe would be enormously damaging in the eyes of millions of Americans, yet some of the conservative justices don’t seem to think that’s important.”

The perception of nonchalance towards the integrity of the court among the six conservative justices now in the majority is striking. In advance of last week’s supercharged hearing, several of those same justices bent over backwards to try to convince the American people that they are neutral servants of the constitution.

The three justices appointed by Trump have been especially keen to portray themselves as having not a partisan bone in their body. Neil Gorsuch, Trump’s first of the three appointments, insisted in September 2019 that it was “rubbish” to imply that the justices were “like politicians with robes”.

More recently Amy Coney Barrett, another of Trump’s triumvirate of appointees, told an audience in Kentucky that the supreme court was not “comprised of a bunch of partisan hacks”.

But she was speaking at the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville and was introduced at the event by the politician after whom the venue is named – Mitch McConnell, the top Republican in the US Senate. It was his shenanigans, blocking Merrick Garland’s confirmation to the court in 2016 on grounds that it was in an election year then rushing through Barrett’s confirmation much closer to election day in 2020, that gave Trump his three picks.

But it is the third of Trump’s supreme court proteges, Brett Kavanaugh, whose position is perhaps most glaring. During his confirmation process in 2018 Kavanaugh went to great lengths to underline his respect for the decisions made by his predecessors on the court, and for the legal doctrine known as stare decisis, which requires justices to honor past rulings in all but exceptional cases.

Kavanaugh assured senators worried about his stance on abortion that he saw Roe v Wade as “settled law”.

He went even further in his conversations with Susan Collins, the relatively moderate Republican senator from Maine on whose vote Kavanaugh depended. When she announced her decision to back him for the supreme court, she revealed what he had said to her during private conversations.

“There has been considerable … concern that Judge Kavanaugh would seek to overturn Roe v Wade,” she said. “Protecting this right is important to me. As Judge Kavanaugh asserted to me, a long-established precedent is not something to be trimmed, narrowed, discarded or overlooked.”

But when it came round to Kavanaugh’s turn to speak in this week’s debate he read out a long list of supreme court cases in which prior precedents had been overturned. He left observers with the clear impression that he was preparing to do precisely what he promised Collins and her fellow senators that he would not do – run roughshod over a pillar of constitutional law.

The pointed interventions of the Trump justices and their conservative peers in this week’s hearing have led most observers convinced that abortion rights in the US are likely to be grossly restricted or abolished outright when the court rules next June. That would be uncannily as Trump himself had predicted.

In a televised debate during the 2016 presidential race, Trump was asked by the Fox News host Chris Wallace whether he wanted the court, including any justices he might appoint as president, to overturn the right to an abortion. He replied: “I am pro-life, and I will be appointing pro-life judges. I would think that that will go back to the individual states.”

Trump did go on to appoint anti-abortion judges, and they are now poised to send control back to individual states, 21 of which currently have laws in place that would effectively ban abortions overnight were Roe v Wade overturned.

Vladeck fears that the vast and growing disconnect between what the conservative justices say they are doing – impartially and faithfully upholding the law of the land, and what they are actually doing – playing along with the machinations of politicians in states like Mississippi, bodes very ill for the legitimacy of the court.

In the long run it could also harm America’s future as a country of laws.

“Public perception matters,” he said. “The more the court appears to be guided by contemporary partisan preferences as opposed to permanent legal principles, the harder it will be for millions of Americans on the wrong side of these cases to understand why they should be bound by them.”
