David Hogg - The
Left's New Sandra Fluke
George Rasley, CHQ Editor | 4/2/18
The Left cannot survive politically unless it serves-up a
steady stream of victims to feed its media allies and the narratives it
promotes through them, and so it seems that every so often a “victim” or
“survivor” must be found to promote their demands for radical change – this
election cycle that person is Parkland, Florida teenager David Hogg.
And it works especially well if the “victim” or
“survivor” is then attacked by a prominent conservative for hypocrisy,
self-entitlement, elitism or some other typically liberal trait, so that the “victim”
or “survivor” can then David Hoggbe turned from “victim” or “survivor” into
martyr, as feminist student Sandra Fluke was when Rush Limbaugh said what every
man-on-the-street conservative was thinking back in 2012.
For those of you from Rio Linda who need help with
recollecting who, exactly, Sandra Fluke was, a quick reminder.
Sandra Fluke was the unmarried radical feminist college
student who testified to House Democrats in support of mandating insurance
coverage for contraceptives, and Rush made the unpardonable (to liberals) sin
of asking why an unmarried college student would need birth control unless she
were a… well, a characterization that one would not want made about their
daughter or mother.
The reaction from the Left was hysterical, and Leftists
quickly mounted a – you guessed it – demand that Rush’s sponsors abandon him so
that he would be driven off the air. A number of sponsors did drop the Rush
Limbaugh Show from their ad placement* but Rush apologized and weathered the
storm.
Even better for Liberals, Limbaugh’s point, that our
Constitution prohibits the government from forcing religious institutions to do
things that are contrary to their beliefs, was entirely lost – which along with
driving Rush off the air, was the goal Liberals had in the first place.
Fast forward the same Liberal strategy and tactics to
2018 and Nikolas Cruz’s attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and the
radical demands for gun control made by student-activist David Hogg.
Hogg, having gotten an extraordinarily big head over all
the media attention he was receiving chose to complain in public about not
being admitted to his chosen colleges, a complaint noted publicly by
conservative commentator Laura Ingraham, and
privately ridiculed by many others, including probably every other college
aspirant who was wait-listed or turned down by their first choice for college.
Following precisely the same playbook the Left used in
the Sandra Fluke attack on Rush, Laura Ingraham is now being attacked for her
tweet sent on last Wednesday, in which Ingraham said Hogg had been rejected
from four colleges and that he then "whines about it."
Well, he did whine, and the rest of what Laura Ingraham
tweeted was absolutely true: Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA...totally
predictable given acceptance rates.
Hogg’s rejection WAS entirely predictable, unless you are
a self-entitled kid who believes that he really is as special as the adults who
are using him keep telling him he is: UCLA’s acceptance rate is only
16.1%, of which 56.3% are California residents (Hogg is from Florida), and the
GPA of the middle 25%-75% students is 4.13 - 4.31 – meaning David Hogg’s 4.1
would have put him in the bottom 25% had he been admitted on some basis other
than the objective standard of his grades and test scores.
But as is so often the case in today’s media culture,
objective truth does not count for much, especially when there is a
conservative media presence to be destroyed.
Following the Sandra Fluke script, David Hogg demanded
that Ingraham’s advertisers drop her show, accusing Laura of being a bully, and
even rejected her honest apology given in recognition that busting a kid for
not getting into college was perhaps uncalled for, even if it was based on
objective facts, but that wasn’t enough to satisfy Hogg, and the Leftists who
want to silence Ingraham’s conservative voice by knocking her off the air.
Many advertisers have dutifully followed the script, with
a spokesman for TripAdvisor taking its virtue signaling to extraordinary
heights by saying the company doesn't "condone the inappropriate comments
made by this broadcaster. In our view, these statements focused on a high
school student, cross the line of decency."
“Cross the line of decency”?
How about this profanity-laced tirade as an example of
“high school student” David Hogg’s kind of decency, shared by our friends at
National Review:
“The pathetic f***ers that want to keep killing our
children, they could have blood from children splattered all over their faces
and they wouldn’t take action because they all still see those dollar signs,”
Hogg said before describing the “exhaustion” he’s experienced as a result of
his month-long stint as a political activist.
“At this point its like when your old-a** parent is like,
‘I don’t know how to send an iMessage’ and you’re like, ‘Ok give me the f***ing
phone’ and you take it and you get it done in one second. Sadly, that’s what we
have to do with our government because our parents don’t know how to use a
f***ing democracy so we have to do it.”
But here’s the kicker, when asked what specific measures
he would implement if given the opportunity, Hogg begins to discuss
mental-illness policy before arguing that it’s not his responsibility to
formulate solutions: “I shouldn’t have to! I’m 17.”
Indeed, David Hogg is only 17, but that’s what makes him
such a useful tool of the Left. He gets to say whatever he wants, but then
scuttle back behind the mantle of youth when someone decides to bean him.

#IStandWithLauraIngraham to tell them you stand with Laura Ingraham and want
her back on TV NOW.
*Editor’s note: When was the last time you saw or
heard an ad for Carbonite, the computer data backup company that was among the
first to drop Rush? “It turned out to be a bigger hole in our revenue than we
had thought when we initially did this,” Carbonite’s CEO David Friend said on a
conference call on August 1, 2012, reported by William Jacobson on the “Legal
Insurrection” blog. In fact, as Jacobson wrote, Carbonite’s 2nd Quarter 2012
results shocked analysts, causing the company’s stock price to plummet by 15%
in one day.
