Will California’s
Gun Control be Coming to Your Hometown?
By Dave Dolbee published on May 11, 2016 in General, News
Not likely, but do not count it out too fast. Yes, San
Francisco’s Gavin
Newsome has a new ballot proposal that is way beyond radical—even
for the anti-gun left. It would seem he has taken the most radical gun control proposals and pushed them over the cliff. But
does he have a chance of getting them passed? Yes. At least some of these
proposals have been passed before in other states, before failing under the
weight of the costs to implement and support them.
The Coalition for Civil Liberties first reached out to The
Shooter’s Log with this but several other pro Second Amendment groups, nine
law enforcement groups—representing thousands of police, prosecutors, and peace
officers—that oppose Newsom’s proposal. He has zero groups on his side there
are even some groups that will definitely surprise you have all come out
against Newsome’s proposals. Here is the breakdown from the Coalition for Civil
Liberties.
According to the official language submitted to the California
Attorney General, Gavin Newsom’s anti-gun initiative will include, among
others, the following provisions:
House-to-House
Confiscation of Private Property
Millions of legal magazines will need to be sold
out-of-state, taken out-of-state, or seized by law enforcement. Many legal
firearms require magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds, making them
effectively illegal. This backdoor gun ban is not just on future sales, but
forces you to surrender your existing private property to law enforcement.
Forcing Legal Ammunition Vendors Out of Business
Thousands of
ammunition retailers will be prohibited from selling ammunition and possibly
forced to close their doors. Vendors will be required to pay additional fees to
have their employees authorized as a seller of ammunition. The ammunition vendors
will be prohibited from selling ammunition into California, meaning no direct
ammunition sales through the mail to your residence. Your access to exercise
your Second Amendment rights is being artificially restricted.
Leave Your Ammo at the Range
By criminalizing
the private sale or transfer of ammunition, it will be a crime to share ammo
with a friend or family member to finish up a hunting trip or day at the range.
The initiative would prohibit leaving the range with any unused ammunition
purchased at the range.
Costly Fees & Long Waits for You
This latest
attempt to coerce you into giving up your weapons includes yet another illegal
fee under the guise of more background checks, including for people who have
already been screened by law enforcement. Newsom wants you to pay another $50
fee and wait 30 days for authorization.
And the biggest
piece, the background checks on ammunition sales, was tried already in New York. It was a huge failure and was
abandoned by Governor Cuomo, (also a
Democrat) when it was determined that it was going to cost $100 million of
taxpayer money. The system was going to be flawed, incomplete and useless. This
is what Californians have to look forward to.
Who is the Coalition for Civil Liberties?
The Coalition is
a diverse group—not just traditional gun owners—but also law enforcement
officials, victims of gun violence,
LGBT advocates, minority rights groups, and much more. Californians are
concerned that this isn’t just a new gun law, but a backdoor attempt to seize
private property from law-abiding citizens.
Never Letting a Tragedy Go
to Waste
Newsom is using
the San Bernardino tragedy to further
his own political ambitions at the expense of our Second Amendment rights.
Newsome has suggested that gun control laws would have prevented an ISIS-inspired
attack. He conveniently forgets that someone who passed the already-stringent
background check process legally purchased the weapons used in that attack.
Rather than pay another government fine for exercising your Second Amendment
rights, why not support the fight to stop Newsom’s scam? The Coalition for
Civil Liberties is the official opposition group to Newsom’s proposal. Please

Rahm's Rule: 'Never Let a
Serious Crisis Go to Waste'
Published: Sunday,

"You
never want a serious crisis to go to waste." Those words, according to the latest article
from Bruce Yandle in The Freeman, capture the essence of what
could be considered Rahm's Rule, after Chicago mayor and former White
House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. As Bruce explains, when it comes to crisis
management, opportunistic politicians such an Emanuel never miss a chance to
convert crises into political pork for special interests:
"Rahm’s
Rule is a useful accessory to a body of theory that seeks to explain the
political economy of regulation. The rule tells us that major crises can
provide cover for distributing benefits to targeted special interest groups.
The greater the magnitude of a given crisis and the shorter the interval for
forming legislation to deal with it, the larger the spread of pork that can be
packed into the final legislation. Rahm’s Rule is a guarantee that efforts to
resolve a deadline-based crisis will go on to the very last minute."
