The Environmental
Protection Agency
is poised to formally repeal carbon pollution standards for coal- and
gas-fired power plants, Bloomberg News reported Sunday, citing people
familiar with the matter.
The
latest climate rollback is expected to come as soon as Monday on the
sidelines of the G20 energy ministers' meeting in Houston, Texas, according
to Bloomberg.
Earlier
this year, the EPA
rescinded the 2009 endangerment finding, which had determined that greenhouse
gases threaten public health and welfare, along with federal greenhouse gas
standards for vehicles.
The
Trump administration first proposed rolling back Biden-era power plant climate
rules last summer.
The EPA
is now moving to scrap requirements that existing and future fossil fuel-fired
power plants use emissions-reduction technologies, including carbon capture and
storage, to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
The
agency also plans to propose a separate rule reversing its determination that
greenhouse gas emissions from power plants pose a threat under the Clean Air
Act.
