FEC Fines Clinton Campaign, DNC for Funding Steele Dossier

The Federal Election Commission has fined Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for lying about funding a discredited dossier, which attempted to smear then-candidate Donald Trump, the Washington Examiner reported.

A dossier written by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele was circulated to the FBI and media outlets before the 2016 election. Its unproven assertions that Russia had embarrassing information about Trump and some of his campaign's advisers were meant to damage Trump.

The FEC said Clinton and the DNC violated strict rules on describing expenditures of payments funneled to the opposition research firm Fusion GPS through their law firm, the Examiner reported Wednesday.

The FEC, in a memo to the Coolidge Reagan Foundation, which filed a complaint more than three years ago, said it fined Clinton's treasurer $8,000 and the DNC's treasurer $105,000.

"This may well be the first time that Hillary Clinton — one of the most evidently corrupt politicians in American history — has actually been held legally accountable, and I'm proud to have forced the FEC to do their job for once," Dan Backer, who brought the complaint on behalf of the foundation, which focuses on free speech and the First Amendment, told the Examiner.

The DNC and Clinton campaign claimed a combined $1,024,407.97 was paid for legal services, not opposition research, to law firm Perkins Coie for Fusion GPS' information.

The money — $849,407.97 from the DNC and $175,000 from the Clinton campaign — covered Fusion GPS' opposition research on the dossier, which fueled the so-called "Russia hoax."

The Clinton campaign and DNC argued they paid for "legal advice and services" because it was Perkins Coie, not them, that hired Fusion GPS. The FEC, however, said the law was clear and violated.

Clinton has in the past defended her campaign's spending for the information and the work of campaign lawyer Marc Elias, who worked for Fusion GPS, which compiled the dossier.

"Solely for the purpose of settling this matter expeditiously and to avoid further legal costs, respondent[s] does not concede, but will not further contest the commission's finding of probable cause to proceed," the FEC said in its memo.

News of the fine came less than a week after Trump sued Clinton and several other Democrats, alleging that they tried to rig the election by tying his campaign to Russia.

"Hillary Clinton and her cronies willfully engaged in the greatest political fraud in history — destroying our nation's faith in the electoral process, and it's high time they were held accountable," Backer told the Examiner. "I hope this is only the beginning."

Igor Danchenko, the primary researcher of the dossier, was arrested in November as part of special counsel John Durham's investigation. Danchenko was charged with "five counts of making false statements to the FBI."

Danchenko provided information to Steele, who compiled the accusations about Trump in a series of reports.

Durham in December told a federal court that, as part of his criminal probe into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, he was examining members of Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign.

In February, Durham alleged that indicted former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann shared data purported to show rare Russian-made phones being used near the Trump White House as part of an alleged scheme to tie Trump to Russia.

Edward Snowden secured a job with a US government contractor for one reason alone – to obtain evidence of Washington’s cyberspying networks, the South China Morning Post can reveal.

For the first time, Snowden has admitted he sought a position at Booz Allen Hamilton so he could collect proof about the US National Security Agency’s secret surveillance programmes ahead of planned leaks to the media.

“My position with Booz Allen Hamilton granted me access to lists of machines all over the world the NSA hacked,” he told the Post on June 12. “That is why I accepted that position about three months ago.”

Asked if he specifically went to Booz Allen Hamilton to gather evidence of surveillance, he replied: “Correct on Booz.”

The documents he divulged to the Post were obtained at Booz Allen Hamilton in April, he said. He intends to leak more of those documents later.

“If I have time to go through this information, I would like to make it available to journalists in each country to make their own assessment, independent of my bias, as to whether or not the knowledge of US network operations against their people should be published.”

There has been speculation on this motive before, but it seems noteworthy that Snowden himself concedes it.

(PresidentialHill.com)- In a startlingly callous and patronizing column in Bloomberg over the weekend, leftist writer Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor and board member for the Left-leaning think tank The Economic Policy Institute, offered up some condescending and ridiculous suggestions for how average Americans can deal with inflation.

In her column, “Inflation Stings Most If You Earn Less Than $300K – Here’s How to Deal,” Ghilarducci even went so far as to suggest pet owners let their pets die rather than taking them to the vet for treatment.

But that’s just one of her condescending “suggestions.”

She told us dirty poors to suck it up and take public transportation as a way to avoid paying high gas prices.

And stop eating animal-based food products, you dirty carnivores! Ghilarducci suggested we start buying meat substitutes like vegetables, beans, and lentils.

In a dig at folks who shop at Costco, Sam’s Club, or BJ’s Wholesale, something Ghilarducci would never dare to do, she instructed them not to buy in bulk.

And to those Americans who adopted pets during the COVID lockdowns, Ghilarducci told them not to waste their money taking them to the vet if they get seriously ill.

Government causes 40-year-high inflation and Ghilarducci’s response is to tell everybody hammered by it to just change their lifestyles.

But by her suggestions, Ghilarducci exposes her own ignorance on how most Americans live.

Public transportation isn’t going to help people outside of urban areas. As one Associated Press reporter said about Ghilarducci’s column, even urban and minority communities often lack access to dependable public transportation.

But this is the problem with people who live in a bubble.

We saw the same thing during the COVID lockdowns. The urban elitists who could easily work from home were constantly mocking working-class Americans who objected to being forced out of their jobs.

What’s the big deal, they’d ask. Just stay home, order delivery, and binge-watch Netflix.

For someone like Teresa Ghilarducci, inflation is no big deal. But rather than honestly assess the financial hardship 40-year-high inflation and skyrocketing prices has on average Americans, her solution is to tell them to eat lentils and let their pets die.

Madeleine Albright, who fled the Nazis as a child in her native Czechoslovakia during World War Two but rose to become the first female U.S. secretary of state and, in her later years, a pop culture feminist icon, died on Wednesday at the age of 84, her family said.

President Bill Clinton chose Albright as America’s top diplomat in 1996, and she served in that capacity for the last four years of his administration.

At the time, she was the highest-ranking woman in the history of U.S. government.

She was a tough-talking diplomat in an administration that hesitated to involve itself in the two biggest foreign policy crises of the 1990s - the genocides in Rwanda and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

"We are heartbroken to announce that Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, the 64th U.S. Secretary of State and the first woman to hold that position, passed away earlier today. The cause was cancer," the family said on Twitter.

Albright, who had become the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in 1993, had pressed for a tougher line against the Serbs in Bosnia. But during President Bill Clinton's first term, many of the administration's top foreign policy experts vividly remembered how the United States became bogged down in Vietnam and were determined to not repeat that error in the Balkans.

The United States responded by working with NATO on airstrikes that forced an end to the war but only after it had been going on for three years.

Albright's experience as a refugee prompted her to push for the United States to be a superpower which used that clout. She wanted a "muscular internationalism," said James O'Brien, a senior adviser to Albright during the Bosnian war.

She once upset a Pentagon chief by asking why the military maintained more than 1 million men and women under arms if they never used them.

Early in the Clinton administration, while she unsuccessfully advocated for a quicker, stronger response in Bosnia, Albright backed a United Nations war crimes tribunal that eventually put the architects of that war, including Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and Bosnian Serb leaders, in jail, O'Brien said.

The plain-spoken Albright took a tough line on a 1996 incident where Cuban jet fighters downed two unarmed U.S.-based planes, saying: "This is not cojones, this is cowardice," using a Spanish vulgarity meaning "testicles."

Albright, who was born in the former Czechoslovakia in 1937, was nominated to become the first woman secretary of state and confirmed unanimously in 1997. She was in the post until 2001.

The painful lessons learned in Rwanda and Bosnia served the United States well in Kosovo, when Washington saw the more powerful Serbs begin a program of ethnic cleansing of ethnic Albanians. NATO responded with an 11-week campaign of air strikes in 1999 that extended to Belgrade.

During efforts to press North Korea to end its nuclear weapons program, which were eventually unsuccessful, Albright traveled to Pyongyang in 2000 to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, becoming the highest ranking U.S. official to visit the secretive Communist-run country.

Once the Clinton years and the 1990s were over, Albright became an icon to a generation of young women looking for inspiration in their quest for opportunity and respect in the workplace. Albright was fond of saying: "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help each other."

The Walt Disney Company sidestepped the Parental Rights in Education bill — dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" bill — Thursday when it responded to activists calling for the company to publicly condemn the legislation.

The controversial bill passed the Florida House of Representatives in a 69-47 vote last week and advanced in the state Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday.

Should the bill become law, Florida educators would be barred from speaking to primary school students about certain LGBTQ+ topics that are not considered "age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students."

Under the bill, parents also would be able to take legal action against school districts they believe to be in violation.

"Good Morning America," which is owned by Disney, shared the media giant’s statement on the program’s Twitter account.

"We understand how important this issue is to our LGBTQ+ employees and many others," the statement read. "For nearly a century, Disney has been a unifying force that brings people together. We are determined that it remains a place where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

"The biggest impact we can have in creating a more inclusive world is through the inspiring content we produce, the welcoming culture we create here, and the diverse community organizations we support, including those representing the LGBTQ+ community."

According to WKMG, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) held two rallies outside Disney Thursday, one in Florida and the other in California, calling on the company to share its views on the bill. The news outlet reported there were more than 200 people gathered outside the Florida location.

"Kids need a safe space to discuss issues that they are going through, and if for whatever reason they don’t feel safe talking to their parents, they need to speak to a trusted teacher or a counselor," Michael Kahane, of the AHF Foundation, said.

Demonstrators said that with Disney hosting a variety of LGBTQ+ events, such as "Gay Days," the company needs to take a stand.

"To turn your back on your guests and your employees because someone doesn't think they should be able to talk about sexual orientation or get guidance or counseling ... is hate speech," Kahane told WKMG.
