Van Jones Suggests Black Police Who Killed Tyre Nichols ‘Driven by Racism,’ Claims Only Race of Victim — Not Cop — Relevant

Breitbart

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/01/31/van-jones-suggests-black-police-who-killed-tyre-nichols-driven-racism-claims-only-race-victim-not-cop-relevant/

The black police officers who killed Tyre Nichols may have been “driven by racism,” according to CNN contributor Van Jones, who charged that black people “are not immune to anti-Black messages,” and that “it is the race of the victim who is brutalized — not the race of the violent cop — that is most relevant in determining whether racial bias is a factor in police violence.”

The Friday CNN op-ed titled “The police who killed Tyre Nichols were Black. But they might still have been driven by racism,” begins with the CNN political commentator and former Obama administration official recalling his arrest during the Los Angeles riots following the beating of Rodney King by four policemen in 1992.

“Three decades ago, when four White Los Angeles police officers were videotaped beating Rodney King, the public outcry was heard around the world,” Jones writes.

“In fact, I got arrested for the first time in my life during protests that followed,” he added.

After what he termed a “defining moment for the nation and the world,” Jones claims he decided to dedicate his career as a lawyer to help “sue rogue cops, close prisons and reform the criminal justice system.”

He then cited Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis who recently compared the beating of King with the death of Nichols, saying: “I was in law enforcement during the Rodney King incident, and it’s very much aligned with that same type of behavior. I would say it’s about the same, if not worse.”

Nichols, a 29-year-old black man, died on January 10, three days after Memphis police officers stopped him for “reckless driving.”

Video footage released on Friday appears to show Nichols being punched, kicked in the face, struck with a baton, and sprayed with an irritant.

Jones describes Nichols as a “good guy,” before stating that “learning that your child’s life was senselessly stolen from him is every Black parent’s nightmare.”

He also noted that “surprisingly to many people,” the five former Memphis police officers, charged with second-degree murder and other crimes in the arrest and death of Tyre Nichols, “were also Black.”

“How do we explain Nichols’ horrific killing, allegedly at the hands of police who looked like him?” Jones asks.

Stating that American society “has often focused on the race of the officers — so often White — as a factor in their deplorable acts of violence,” the CNN anchor argues that “the narrative ‘White cop kills unarmed Black man’ should never have been the sole lens through which we attempted to understand police abuse and misconduct.”

“It’s time to move to a more nuanced discussion of the way police violence endangers Black lives,” he writes.

According to Jones, black people are not immune to the “pernicious effects” of anti-black racism.

Society’s message that Black people are inferior, unworthy and dangerous is pervasive,” he writes. “Over many decades, numerous experiments have shown that these ideas can infiltrate Black minds as well as White.”

“Self-hatred is a real thing,” he adds.

For example, Jones claims, a black store owner “might regard customers of his same race with suspicion, while treating his White patrons with deference.”

“Black people can harbor anti-Black sentiments and can act on those feelings in harmful ways,” he writes.

Regarding law enforcement, Jones insists black officers “are often socialized in police departments that view certain neighborhoods as war zones.”

“In those departments, few officers get disciplined for dishing out ‘street justice’ in certain precincts — often populated by Black, brown or low-income people — where there is a tacit understanding that the ‘rulebook’ simply doesn’t apply,” he claims.

“Cops of all colors, including Black police officers, internalize those messages — and sometimes act on them,” he adds.

He then cites the infamous rap protest anthem “F*** tha Police” — where rapper Ice Cube describes assault by black police as “showing out for the white cop” — to prove that “the phenomenon of brutal Black cops singling out young Black men for abuse [in Black neighborhoods] is nothing new.”

Though “race does matter” when it comes to police violence, Jones asserts it is not the way readers think.

At the end of the day, it is the race of the victim who is brutalized — not the race of the violent cop — that is most relevant in determining whether racial bias is a factor in police violence. It’s hard to imagine five cops of any color beating a White person to death under similar circumstances. And it is almost impossible to imagine five Black cops giving a White arrestee the kind of beat-down that Nichols allegedly received.

Jones concludes that “racial animus can still be a factor, even when the perpetrators are all Black,” charging that “people often oppress people who look just like them.”

“The vast majority of human rights abuses are committed by people who look exactly like the people they are abusing,” he adds.

He suggests that “stricter oversight and swifter punishment” are the keys to “reducing the incidence of police violence,” claiming that without them “we’ll continue to see stomach-churning acts of police violence against Black men — by cops of every color.”

In response, Valuetainment’s Patrick Bet-David blasted CNN over the piece.

“Any opportunity @cnn gets to divide, it jumps on it,” he wrote.

“It’s a shame. Why not try to unify for once?” he added.

Speaking on CNN about his remarks in the essay, Jones responded to critics, admitting “it does seem weird when we’re saying there’s a racial dimension here even though the police are African-American,” but ultimately reiterating he continues to believe racial bias played a role in the officers’ conduct.

Previously, Jones has called the policing “methodology” used in the United States “dumb and dangerous and discriminatory.”

He also described former President Donald Trump’s victory during the 2016 presidential elections as “a whitelash against a black president, in part.”

ADAM ELIYAHU BERKOWITZ BIBLICAL NEWS JANUARY 5, 2023

https://www.israel365news.com/364914/pew-report-newly-elected-congress-88-christian/

Pew Research Center released a report on the religious composition of the recently-elected 118th Congress.

Christians make up 88% of the voting members of the new Congress compared with only 63% of US adults overall.  469 out of 534 total members self-identify as Christians. This is the lowest number since the Pew Research Center began analyzing the religious affiliation of the House and Senate for the 2009-2010 session. Of these, 303 identify as Protestant, 148 as Catholic, 9 as Mormon (CLS), 8 as Orthodox Christian, and 3 as Muslim.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-R) identified as a Messianic Jew but she has publicly described herself as a Christian.

Only one member of the new Congress, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (Independent-Arizona), identifies as religiously unaffiliated. Rep. Jared Huffman(D-Calif.) describes himself as a humanist, and 20 are categorized as having unknown religious affiliations.

20 members of Congress have unknown religious affiliations, either because they declined to answer CQ Roll Call’s query or because the answers were inconclusive.

Pew noted that the Senate and House members are “largely untouched” by the ongoing decrease in the portion of Americans who identify as Christian and the comparable increase in the share of those who say they do not have a religious affiliation.

63% of Americans currently identify as Christian as compared to 78% in 2007. 29% of Americans currently say they are religiously unaffiliated as compared to 16% in 2007.

33 identify as Jewish, one less than the previous Congress, accounting for 6% of the Congress, as compared to the general population which has a Jewish population of 2%.

Both chambers are dominated by Christians numerically. 268 out of 271 Republicans identify as Christians as compared to 201 of 263 Democrats. All nine members of Congress who are Mormons are Republicans while Orthodox Christians are evenly split, with four from each major political party. Almost two-thirds (64 percent) of newcomers to Congress are Protestant; a bit more than half (55 percent) of incumbents identify with that branch of Christianity. There are fewer Catholic first-timers than returning members of Congress (22 percent compared with 29 percent).

JAN 27, 2023

https://www.desantisdaily.com/time-magazine-went-after-ron-desantis-for-one-insanely-woke-reason-no-one-saw-coming/?utm_source=decide&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=5774&utm_content=desantis_vs_cheney

It’s no secret that almost all of today’s news magazines are leftist tripe.

And they have rallied around Joe Biden and the Democrats to serve as the propaganda arm of the radical Left.

Now TIME Magazine has gone after Ron DeSantis for one insanely woke reason no one saw coming.

There was a time, believe it or not, when news magazines like TIME, U.S. News, Newsweek, and others were actually unbiased reporters of the news.

Dog whistles, phony racism, and leftist ideology

These publications once contained useful information and political commentary that many Americans and astute political pundits could use.

But now those days are long gone.

Instead the once proud news magazines have become nothing more than leftist propaganda merchants spewing socialist dog whistles, cries of fake racism, and radical leftist dogma.

And now they are defending the woke ideology that is destroying American culture.

TIME recently ran a story by Samuel L. Perry and Eric L. McDaniel that attacked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and tried to defend wokism.

Perry is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Oklahoma and author of four books.

McDaniel is an Associate Professor of Political Science and co-director of the Politics of Race and Ethnicity Lab at the University of Texas at Austin.

The two penned the article one would assume to try and defend and promote an ideology that is at best a sick joke, and at worst a disaster for the very Republic.

The “war on woke”

Perry and McDaniel begin their article with a clear swipe at popular Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

“On Jan. 12, 2023, Florida Gov. and possible GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis extended his ‘war on woke,’ when his administration rejected a proposed Advanced Placement African American Studies class from Florida high schools,” the authors wrote.

And the authors didn’t stop there but instead piled on their sarcastic remarks about DeSantis.

“The move was consistent with DeSantis’s proposed ‘Stop W.O.K.E Act’ in 2022, which aims to eliminate certain content from educational curriculum and has been under partial injunction since November,” the pair added.

Perry and McDaniel went on, “And on Jan. 20, 2023, a U.S. District Court judge upheld DeSantis’s suspension of Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren whom DeSantis claimed had prosecuted cases under ‘woke ideology.’”

But the authors were just getting warmed up and would soon drop the boom.

“DeSantis is only the most prominent example of Republican lawmakers claiming to fight ‘woke ideology,’ ‘wokeness,’ or the ‘woke left,’ and though occasionally pressed to provide definitions, politicians are strategically vague,” the pair continued.

Everything is racist

“Even with the ‘Stop W.O.K.E. Act,’ that clearly targets content about America’s racist history and systems, the acronym simply stands for ‘Wrong to our Kids and Employees.’ Nothing racial. Just as with all effective dog whistles, the racial implications must be subtle, or better yet, implied.”

There it is.

The mandatory racism in everything DeSantis is doing.

The authors claim that their so-called “research” proves that almost everyone who opposes woke ideology is a racist.

Of course, that is nothing new.

The Left has accused conservatives of being racist for decades.

Are you pro-life?

You’re a racist – despite the fact that blacks are the target of abortionists.

Do you believe in the Second Amendment?

Then you are certainly a racist.

Is your last name DeSantis, well then . . .

And the authors go further, claiming (based on a super reliable online poll) that the vast majority of Americans who call themselves ‘woke’ are black.

Thus, the authors claim anyone who opposes woke ideology must be racist.

Since Ron DeSantis is leading the fight against forced ‘wokism,’ he then, according to the authors, is the chief racist.

That is what passes as coherent left-wing ideology these days.

DeSantis Daily will keep you up-to-date on any developments to this ongoing story.

(Dreamtime)

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/newsmax-at-t-directv/2023/01/24/id/1105756/

At midnight Tuesday, AT&T's DirecTV cut Newsmax's signal, immediately shutting the network off from more than 13 million customers of the satellite service, DirecTV Stream, and U-Verse.

This is the second time in the past year AT&T has moved to cancel a conservative channel, with DirecTV deplatforming OAN in April.

Despite Newsmax being the 4th highest-rated cable news channel in the nation, a top 20 cable news channel overall, and watched by 25 million Americans on cable alone, according to Nielsen, DirecTV said it was taking the step as a "cost-cutting" measure and would never pay Newsmax a cable license fee.

DirecTV pays cable license fees to all top 75 cable channels and to all 22 liberal news and information channels it carries. Almost all of these channels are paid hefty license fees significantly more than Newsmax was seeking — and despite the fact that most of the channels have much lower ratings than Newsmax.

"This is a blatant act of political discrimination and censorship against Newsmax," Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax said.

"The most extreme liberal channels, even with tiny ratings, get fees from AT&T's DirecTV, but Newsmax and OAN need to be deplatformed," Ruddy added.

Last week, as news spread in Congress that AT&T DirecTV was moving to deplatform Newsmax, 41 Republican congressmen led by Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, sent a letter to the CEOs of AT&T, DirecTV, and hedge fund TPG Capital, the minority operator of the satellite system, warning of hearings.

The members of Congress also demanded to know why conservative media was being targeted for censorship, with the letter noting the House is "deeply concerned about this undemocratic assault on free speech."

"If Newsmax is removed from DirecTV, in less than a year House Republicans will have lost two of the three cable news channels that reach conservative voters on a platform that primarily serves conservative-leaning areas of the country," Hunt stated in his letter.

The letter was signed by some of the most significant members of the House, including the GOP conference chair, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., House Oversight Chair James Comer, R-Ky., and Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith, R-Mo.

Hunt's letter claims that DirecTV is "moving to deplatform Newsmax by denying it cable fees on a fair and equitable basis."

AT&T DirecTV's decision to drop OAN and Newsmax comes on the heels of a February 2021 letter written by Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., and then-Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Calif., demanding that cable and satellite TV providers explain their alleged role in the "spread of dangerous misinformation" by carrying conservative networks.

After the Eshoo and McNerney letter, in April 2022, AT&T removed OAN from DirecTV.

About the same time, the Biden administration speedily approved AT&T's proposed $43 billion merger of its WarnerMedia division with Discovery.

AT&T continues to own 70% of DirecTV, but in 2021 added TPG Capital as its partner with a 30% stake in 2021.
TPG, a Texas-based financial firm and hedge fund, is known for its liberal politics. FEC documents show that since 1993, 90% of its donations have gone to Democrat candidates and committees.

Hunt's letter added: "Newsmax is one of the most watched cable news channels in America; millions of people turn to Newsmax as a source of trusted information. Now more than ever, the American people need access to a free and fair press."

As news reports indicated the likelihood of a Newsmax deplatforming Tuesday night, DirecTV representatives made false claims to the media about Newsmax and its negotiations.

DirecTV falsely claimed to media outlets that Newsmax is asking for a fee but still wants to keep a free stream on OTT platforms (over-the-top service is a type of service offered directly to viewers).

But this is false; no operator pays a fee while Newsmax streams free and DirecTV was fully aware the free stream will end this year.

"We've discussed with Newsmax on several occasions that we'd like to offer their programming, however, the network is now seeking significant fees that we cannot pass on to our broad customer base," a DirecTV representative claimed in a statement.

But an analysis shows that Newsmax was seeking a fee with a 75% discount to its market value, and compared to fees currently paid by DirecTV, almost all 50 channels below Newsmax in ratings get higher fees.

Last year, three major cable operators renewed with Newsmax and agreed to the modest fee.

Newsmax is urging its supporters to move their pay TV, cellphone, and other services from AT&T and DirecTV to other companies that do not engage in political discrimination.

Newsmax is also encouraging viewers and readers to contact their members of Congress and senators to oppose censorship of Newsmax and demand support for fairness and equity for conservative media.

(Dreamtime)
