Exclusive: Chaffetz Says ‘In London Last Week I Felt Brexit Coming’

The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee told Breitbart News the Brexit vote in the United Kingdom is the canary in the coal mine for elites supporting open borders for the United States and around the world.

“It is indicative of what is happening around the world,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R.-Utah). “People love their country and they don’t want it overtaken by massive uncontrolled immigration.”

People want to preserve their cultures and their national traditions, he said. “I was in London last week,” he said. “You could feel it. You could understand it. People wanted to stand up for themselves and I think that is playing out here, as well.”

The congressman said when the British people voted to exit the European Union, it was the triumph of the people.

“The political elite wanted one thing, but the people wanted something else,” he said. “I am glad their voice was heard and I appreciate their guts to do what they think is right for their own country.”

Chaffetz said he did want to weigh in on the merits of having President Barack Obama with Prime Minister David Cameron. “I don’t think it makes a hill of beans worth of a difference. People are going to do what they are going to do and more power to them. That’s what it’s all about.”
