it. On February 3rd of this year, I receive this email without ANY previous
required.
We are writing to inform you that you have been nominated
by the Ford Foundation and selected to receive the $XXXXX Border
Narrative Change Grant Award for artists. Congratulations!
“LA CARP”A DE LA FRONTERA" is a new project by CARPA
San Diego supported in part by Reclaiming the Border Narrative, a project of
the Ford Foundation and The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures
(NALAC), via a Border Narrative Change Grant awarded to Samuel Valdez by
NALAC.”
La Carpa De La Frontera, Theater Promoting Social Justice
and Healing will support the social justice work of artists who dedicate
themselves on building narratives around the border life experience by
addressing current social, political issues through comedic relief. Using the
old carpa style setting used in Mexico during the 1930's, 40's and 50's,
troupes of performing artists will focus on immigration, race, human rights,
accessibility, and culture to bring performance and visual art pieces to those
most impacted during the pandemic.
We are currently looking for collaborators for the
planning of this project. We already have OnStage Playhouse and Fern Street
Circus as part of the project.
