Climate Envoy John Kerry spoke with MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' on the importance of China with the Biden Administration's climate policy: "China, interestingly enough, China has a plan. They've put a plan in place, we think they could do more, but China is going to be building more electric vehicles put on the road over the next year or so in China than in all the rest of the world put together. China is -- I'm not excusing China, I'm just telling you that China is moving to do additional things. They are deploying renewable power at a rate that exceeds all other nations. They are the largest manufacturer of this in the world and so China is moving. The challenge is, if we're not cooperating able, which we're not able to be doing right now, since the, the -- since Taiwan, the Taiwan visit, China has suspended its communications with us on this subject. I hope they're going to come back, and I hope that we can work together."

(CNN) — Veteran journalist Katie Couric reported some personal news on Wednesday.

In a post on her website, Couric shared she was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago.

“Why Not Me,” she titled the post. “June 21, 2022, was the first day of summer, my 8th wedding anniversary, and the day I found out I had breast cancer.”

“I felt sick and the room started to spin,” Couric wrote. “I was in the middle of an open office, so I walked to a corner and spoke quietly, my mouth unable to keep up with the questions swirling in my head.”

She explained that her gynecologist had reminded her she was due for a mammogram since her last one was in December 2020.

Couric, who lost her first husband Jay Monahan to colon cancer in 1998, said she planned on filming the test to share with her audience, much like when she underwent colon cancer screening while working for the morning show “Today.”

Because she has dense breast tissue, she explained, she routinely undergoes a breast sonogram in addition to a mammogram since dense breasts can make it more difficult for mammograms to detect abnormalities.

The sonogram detected something and a followup biopsy determined that she had cancer.

“The heart-stopping, suspended animation feeling I remember all too well came flooding back: Jay’s colon cancer diagnosis at 41 and the terrifying, gutting nine months that followed,” she wrote. “My sister Emily’s pancreatic cancer, which would later kill her at 54, just as her political career was really taking off. My mother-in-law Carol’s ovarian cancer, which she was fighting as she buried her son, a year and nine months before she herself was laid to rest.”

Her family has had better outcomes with cancer, she wrote, including her mother being “diagnosed with mantle cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which was kept at bay for a decade,” her father’s prostate cancer, and her now husband, John, having “a tumor the size of a coconut on his liver,” which was surgically removed a few months before their wedding.

Couric had surgery in July to remove a tumor from her breast that she wrote was “2.5 centimeters, roughly the size of an olive” and underwent radiation, which, she wrote, ended Tuesday.

She went public with her experience, she wrote, as a teachable moment she hopes will save lives.

“Please get your annual mammogram. I was six months late this time,” Couric wrote. “I shudder to think what might have happened if I had put it off longer. But just as importantly, please find out if you need additional screening.”

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) rejected claims that it performs unethical transgender surgeries on minors Wednesday, saying it requires parental consent for anyone under the age of 18.

The statement comes in relation to calls from Tennessee lawmakers to investigate the clinic following a report from conservative activist Matt Walsh. The VUMC denied any wrongdoing in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying it conducts all of its care "in compliance with state law and in line with professional practice standards."

"VUMC requires parental consent to treat a minor patient who is to be seen for issues related to transgender care and never refuses parental involvement in the care of transgender youth who are under age 18," the statement read. "Our policies allow employees to decline to participate in care they find morally objectionable and do not permit discrimination against employees who choose to do so. This includes employees whose personal or religious beliefs do not support gender-affirming care for transgender persons."

Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and others called for an investigation after a Tuesday report from Walsh claimed that VUMC "drugs, chemically castrates and performs double mastectomies on minors."

Walsh's report references a series of videos from Vanderbilt staff indicating the university "has given irreversible hormone drugs to children as young as 13."

In one such video, Assistant Professor Dr. Shayne Taylor can be heard in a 2018 video apparently discussing "top surgery." It is not clear at the time of this report if Taylor was referring to surgery on minors in the referenced 2018 video.

"Some of our VUMC financial folks in October of 2016 put down some costs of how much money we think each patient would bring in. And this is only including top surgery, this isn't including any bottom surgery, and it's a lot of money," Taylor said in the video.

"Top surgery" in this context for a female would be a double mastectomy.

Dr. Taylor's employee page on the VUMC website is no longer available, and the organization did not immediately respond to questions about her employment status.

The page for the transgender pediatric clinic was also unavailable on the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital website, despite being live as recently as August 31. Vanderbilt Health's "Gender-Affirming Surgery" page was unavailable as of Wednesday, but was live as recently as July 2.

Vanderbilt University denied involvement in the VUMC in a statement to Fox.

"Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a fully independent nonprofit and has been a separate legal entity from Vanderbilt University since 2016. As such, Vanderbilt University has no role in medical decisions and patient care," university spokesman John O'Brien told Fox.

Lee released a statement calling for an investigation soon after the report's release.

"The ‘pediatric transgender clinic’ at Vanderbilt University Medical Center [VUMC] raises serious moral, ethical and legal concerns," Lee said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "We should not allow permanent, life-altering decisions that hurt children or policies that suppress religious liberties, all for the purpose of financial gain. We have to protect Tennessee children, and this warrants a thorough investigation."

"Agreed, we are with you," Blackburn wrote in a tweet referencing Lee's comments.

Lee spokeswoman Casey Sellers told Fox that the governor's office has "shared concerns with the Attorney General."

Tennessee state Rep. William Lamberth joined Lee and Blackburn in condemning the University on Wednesday, saying he hopes to go beyond just an investigation.

"I'm deeply troubled by what Matt Walsh uncovered about the Pediatric Transgender Clinic at VUMC," Lamberth said. "Gov. Bill Lee is right to call for an investigation, and we will support that investigation 100%. This type of child mutilation should be illegal and soon will be in TN."

LA JOLLA, Calif. — A riveting view of the sunset known as “Salkhenge” took place Thursday evening at the Salk Institute in La Jolla.

The rare sighting, which only occurs during the spring and fall equinoxes, featured the sun aligning with the scientific research institute’s “River of Life” — a slender murmuring stream along the travertine to point to the sea, according to organizers.

Roseanne Barr was abruptly “canceled” and fired in 2018 from the reboot of her incredibly popular ABC series “Roseanne” over allegations that she is a racist.

Barr made a joke about Valerie Jarrett, who is the former White House senior adviser to President Barack Obama, by referring to her as the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby.”

Barr apologized and agreed the joke was in bad taste. “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans,” Barr responded. “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.”

For the first time in 16 years, Barr is set to produce and star in a new comedy stand-up special for the online streaming service of Fox News.

69-year-old actress and comedian’s show is titled, “A Roseanne Comedy Special.” It will be released in early 2023.

“Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other,” Jason Klarman, president of Fox Nation, said. “Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans.”

“We are thrilled to add her comedy special exclusively to the Fox Nation catalog,” the statement added.

“No subject off limits” in Barr’s upcoming comedy special, according to the statement from Fox.
