This is
a reminder that the UVU
Herbert Institute is hosting former U.S. Vice President Mike
Pence
as its fall forum
speaker on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in The Concert Hall
of The Noorda Center for the Performing Arts. Parking lots M23 and M29 will be
designated as parking for off-campus community members. Faculty, staff,
and students who normally park in these lots are encouraged to ride UTA or park in
L9 and L10 until 12:30 p.m.

Early
life and education
Tuminez first came to the United States at
age 18 in 1982 on a student visa. That is when she began her study at Brigham Young University (BYU).[4] She earned a bachelor's degree in Russian and
international relations from BYU,[2] a master's degree in Soviet Studies [5] from Harvard University,
and a Ph.D. in political science and government from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[6] She was a program officer at the Carnegie Corporation of New York,
focused on grantmaking in democratization, conflict prevention, and non-proliferation of weapons
of mass destruction. Tuminez joined AIG Global Investments as a research
director and ran the Moscow office of the Harvard Project on Strengthening
Democratic Institutions, where she worked with leading reformers of communism.
