A Wisconsin judge has approved a subpoena requiring a prominent leftist fundraising platform to turn over certain documents in a widening fraud investigation.

Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Brad D. Schimel ordered ActBlue to hand over a limited number of records after a Republican's email identity was used to make liberal donations he did not authorize.

"Something is not right," Schimel said, Just The News reported.

Schimel permitted Republican consultant Mark Block and lawyers from America First Policy Institute to conduct discovery to determine if fraud was involved in the use of his identity to make dozens of Democrat donations on his old email address.

Block, a chief of staff and campaign manager for the late Herman Cain, filed a racketeering lawsuit Oct. 14 in Wisconsin against ActBlue, accusing the group of stealing his identity to make 385 donations to left-wing causes, including Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential PAC.

ActBlue had tried to convince the judge that it was overly burdensome to require it to comply with a subpoena for third-party donations it processed on its platform.

"I get the argument that this is an assumption on plaintiff's part that the donations are fraudulent," Schimel said during a Nov. 21 hearing.

"There may be an element of fraud or maybe it is innocent. Plaintiff has set forth enough in their complaint and in support of their subpoena to demonstrate that there may be something here."

The judge approved an amended subpoena aimed to ascertain how the donations using Block's email addresses were paid. He rejected a broader subpoena sought by Block's lawyers that would have required ActBlue to disclose how it guards against fraud.

ActBlue's lawyers argued that it is not responsible for a man using the name Bernard Cain using Block's email address from California and Colorado.

Schimel noted that Block's lawyers had submitted evidence from investigators of other people who are listed as giving donations to ActBlue who claim they did not make such contributions.

"I don't get why there is — why that is causing such substantial resistance to sharing it," the judge said of the data being sought by Block, Just The News reported.

ActBlue also is being probed by Congress and 19 attorneys general.

In October, Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., chair of the Committee on House Administration, issued a subpoena to ActBlue, the fundraising platform used by Democrats to collect donations for Harris.

Steil accused ActBlue as being used as a front to launder money, according to a release.

House investigators are examining whether entities from Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and China may have directed funds to support Democrat campaigns in 2024 through ActBlue.

Marc Morial, CEO and president of the National Urban League, one of the nation's leading civil rights groups, says Walmart ended its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives because it succumbed "to a smear campaign, to threats, to bullying, and to blackmail by a handful of extremists."

Walmart pulled back on its DEI initiatives Tuesday following a string of legal victories by conservative groups that have filed an onslaught of lawsuits challenging corporate and federal programs aimed at elevating minority- and women-owned businesses and employees.

Morial told "CBS Mornings" he was "dismayed by this decision."

"They went from worst to first class when it comes to diversity," he said. "The idea that they would throw all of that away without any careful consultation with their partners, without any real serious evaluation of the success of these programs, is what dismays me."

Walmart told CBS that the company's decision is an effort to make everyone feel like they "belong."

"Like many companies all across the U.S., we've been on a journey," CEO and President John Furner said. "We'll continue to be on a journey. And what we're trying to do is to ensure every customer, every associate feels welcomed here in the shop and to feel like they belong."

Among other changes, Walmart said it will no longer give priority treatment to suppliers owned by women or minorities. The company also will not renew a five-year commitment for a racial equity center set up in 2020 after the police killing of George Floyd. Additionally, it pulled out of a prominent gay rights index.

Tyson Foods will permanently close a meat plant in Emporia, Kansas, that employs more than 800 people, according to a letter the company sent to the state Monday.

The job cuts are the latest blows to America's heartland from the biggest U.S. meat company by sales. Tyson has also closed six U.S. chicken plants since the start of 2023 and an Iowa pork plant, laying off thousands of workers.

Tyson faces financial pressure as the nation's cattle herd has dwindled to its smallest size in decades, raising costs for the animals the company processes into beef. The meatpacker's chicken business previously suffered after executives misjudged consumer demand.

The company will shut the Emporia plant around Feb. 14, terminating 804 employees, and another five employees at a lab will lose their jobs on Jan. 31, according to a letter it sent to the Kansas Department of Commerce.

The plant has produced products such as seasoned and marinated meats and ground beef, according to Tyson's website. Workers stopped slaughtering cattle there in 2008 due to tight supplies.

The company, which reaped big profits as meat prices soared during the COVID-19 pandemic, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Its letter said the closures are part of a strategy to operate more efficiently.

Former President Barack Obama's attorney general, Eric Holder, not only defended President Joe Biden's pardon for son Hunter, but he also used news of the immunity to attack President-elect Donald Trump's choice to head the FBI.

Biden on Sunday pardoned his son, Hunter, sparing the younger Biden a possible prison sentence for federal felony gun and tax convictions and reversing his past promises not to use the extraordinary powers of the presidency for the benefit of his family members.

Trump on Saturday announced he picked Kash Patel to serve as FBI director, turning to a fierce loyalist to upend America's premier law enforcement agency and rid the government of perceived conspirators.

Holder used social media to insist the prosecution of Hunter Biden, who had been scheduled to be sentenced on separate federal gun and tax evasion cases later this month, was unwarranted.

"No USAtty would have charged this case given the underlying facts. After a 5 year investigation the facts as discovered only made that clear," Holder wrote Sunday night on X.

"Had his name been Joe Smith the resolution would have been — fundamentally and more fairly — a declination.

"Pardon warranted."

Holder then upped his politicization of Trump's choice for attorney general.

"Ask yourself a vastly more important question. Do you really think Kash Patel is qualified to lead the world's preeminent law enforcement investigative organization? Obvious answer: hell no," he said.

Trump and many Republicans have accused Obama and Biden of weaponizing the DOJ to go after political opponents.

The president-elect said Patel "is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and 'America First' fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People."
