Park51
Controversy
Opponents of the Park51 project argued that it is
"a mosque", claiming that establishing a mosque a few blocks away
from Ground Zero would be offensive because the hijackers in the September 11,
2001 attacks were Islamic terrorists.
Project supporters have argued
that the Park51 building would not be visible from the World Trade
Center site,[32] and that
some victims and victims' families have expressed support for the Park51
project, as well as acknowledging the fact that victims of the 9/11 attacks
also included Muslims.
