Symbolic meaning in ordinary events.

Just before 9/11 I purchased a large American flag and metal flag holder that attaches to the house. After 9/11 I decided to leave the flag up until Election Day. After Election Day I decided to leave the flag up as a show of how I voted. Pew did a poll saying liberals do not display the flag.

Today a neighbor rang my doorbell. He had rescued the flag that had fallen to the ground. We investigated and found that the flag holder was made of cheap pot metal plated with a thin coat of chrome to make it look more substantial. We named the defective flag holder “Obama”.
