Thoughts on the election

Hat tip to Dan:

As is true for far too many Americans my age, I have spilt my blood on foreign soil and watched great men who I was honored to consider some of my very best friends pay the ultimate sacrifice to help other countries stop the red tide of socialism from invading their shores. Yesterday’s election was more than just a slap in the face, it was a gut check.

Troubled waters lie ahead for this Nation that I love, but now is not the time for fear; and although the mistake America made last night was indeed tragic, now is not the time for mourning. It is a time for vigilance. It is a time for those who truly care about America’s future; those who dare to love the freedom that far too many take for granted, to begin the process of restoration.

History has consistently demonstrated that the more control the left has in Washington, the worse the Nation fares both economically and socially. Companies faced with punitive tax rates fail or move their operations overseas, unemployment rises, crime rates increase, and fear and uncertainty reign. With the threat that the most frightening elements of the extremist left will now control not only both houses of Congress but also the Oval Office, the potential exists that the damage to the fabric of America will be severe. But America is resilient.

In the aftermath of 9/11, at one of the most troubling times in our recent history, America pulled together and became united under the leadership of a Republican President and a Republican majority in Congress. The direct assault on our economy was short-lived and public support of the Administration and Congress was at an all-time high. This scared the hell out of the left who recognized that if they did not undermine the Administration and erode support, it would be a long time before any Democrat was again elected to public office. Unfortunately they succeeded. Doubts were cast on the legitimacy of the war on terror and on the handling of it and support began to erode. Aided and abetted by the media, the left succeeded in destroying the unity that we briefly held and they were able to take control of both houses.

As history would predict, in the short time since the left gained control of Congress, we have seen a drastic down-turn in an economy that had so quickly rebounded after 9/11. But the left has been successful in unfairly putting the blame on the Administration. The war on terror which had passed both houses of Congress with nearly unanimous bi-partisan support became “Bush’s war” and just as with the Vietnam War, growing segments of the public began to declare that it was time to bring our troops home and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The plan that the puppet-masters on the far left put into play a few months after 9/11 succeeded.

But there is a silver lining. If Obama does take the oath in January, with control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, the Democrats will no longer be able to shift the blame when things continue to plummet. They will own every bill they pass, every decision they make, every punitive tax increase they levy, every company that fails and every person who becomes unemployed as a result of their socialist policies. They will own the higher crime rate, the higher unemployment rate, the failed economy, the growing deficit, and unfortunately they may own the annihilation of our long-time ally and friend, Israel.

Recovery from a Democrat-controlled House, Senate and Oval Office will be long and arduous, but hopefully America’s memory will be longer the next time around and when the Republicans regain control in two to four years it will be a very long time before any far-left Democrat is again elected to public office.
