On Saturday night, Van Jones, the "Green Jobs Czar" of the Obama Administration, resigned after it was revealed that Mr. Jones:
Signed a petition in 2004 that called for an "immediate inquiry into evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur."
Compared President Bush to "a crackhead licking a crackpipe for another fix."
Referred to Republicans as "a**holes"
Said: "You've never seen a Columbine done by a black child. Never. They always say, 'We can't believe it happened here. We can't believe it's these suburban white kids.' It's only them. Now, a black kid might shoot another black kid. He's not going to shoot up the whole school."
Democrats and other Obama supporters have come to Mr. Jones' defense, excoriating opponents for their vicious attacks on Jones. Apparently, "vicious attacks" have been defined down to "quoting things he said in the last ten years."
But to me these quotes are not nearly as interesting as a quote from a speech he gave at the March Power Shift '09 conference:
"This movement is deeper than a solar panel! Deeper than a solar panel! Don't stop there! Don't stop there! We're gonna change the whole system! We're gonna change the whole thing. We're not gonna put a new battery in a broken system. We want a new system. We want a new system!"
This is the most explicit statement I've read about how the global warming movement isn't about global warming at all, but about enacting a system of governance that will destroy America's economic system from the inside out. Mr. Jones stated it for all of us, explicitly. And President Obama, knowing this, picked him to be in his cabinet.
This story is not as important for what Mr. Jones said as for what it says about President Obama.
