Duck Hunt: NAACP Blasts Phil Robertson as 'Racist'

Shouldn't everyone know what the Oak Bluffs (MA) homeowners are up to?

Duck Hunt: NAACP Blasts Phil Robertson as 'Racist'
by John Nolte 20 Dec 2013, 6:36 AM PDT
The left's shrill witch hunt to snuff out a culturally conservative television phenomenon marched on Thursday when the NAACP blasted "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson as "racist." During an interview with "GQ" magazine, the 67 year-old Robertson described himself as "white trash" and said that his memory does not comport with a Jim Crow South that is seen by most as a living hell for blacks. Apparently, what you remember now qualifies you as a racist:

"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson told GQ writer Drew Margary. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

Three points…

1. If a senior citizen having a gauzy, rose-colored memory of his childhood, even in the South, is now considered racism, the PC jails are about to get pretty full. (To his credit, CNN's Chris Cuomo made this same point on "New Day" Friday morning).

2. If the left is looking for elderly white guys with truly offensive views (as opposed to memories) of blacks, I would be happy to dig up some quotes from just five-years-ago that were made by sitting Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and sitting Democrat Vice President Joe Biden.

3. Phil Robertson's son, Willie, adopted a biracial son.

Little things like logic and facts, though, have never stopped fascist leftists like the NAACP from revealing their own bigotry, which is all they did in this letter to A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc:

The NAACP and HRC were offended by the remarks, and they sent a joint letter on Wednesday to A&E that is drawing wide attention for calling out both the racially insensitive and homophobic comments Robertson made in the article, calling them "racist, homophobic and ill-informed." Here's a portion of the letter:

"As you may know, Phil attacked both African Americans and LGBT people in a recent GQ interview (January 2014) – saying that African Americans were happier under Jim Crow laws, and equating being gay with bestiality and promiscuity," the groups wrote, adding, "These remarks go beyond being outlandishly inaccurate and offensive. They are dangerous and revisionist, appealing to those in our society who wish to repeat patterns of discrimination ... Mr. Robertson claims that, from what he saw, African Americans were happier under Jim Crow. What he didn’t see were lynching and beatings of black men and women for attempting to vote or simply walking down the street."

Other than the charge of racism, the biggest lie here is that Robertson compared homosexuality to bestiality. Listing a bunch of biblical sins, including bestiality, homosexuality, adultery, terrorism, drunkenness, idolatry, and greed, is not "comparing" them or making a moral equivalence argument.

The left and media are losing this battle because they jumped to soon and as a result have only managed to reveal their own anti-Christian bigotry.
