Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh: Foolish for Boehner to Take Impeachment 'Off the Table'

Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh: Foolish for Boehner to Take Impeachment 'Off the Table'
by Tony Lee 30 Jul 2014, 6:55 PM PDT
After conservative icon and talk radio host Rush Limbaugh blasted House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) for declaring that impeaching Obama was off the table, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin praised Limbaugh for understanding the importance of not emboldening Obama to act even more lawlessly.

"Rush is right," she wrote in a Wednesday Facebook post.  "The GOP wants to take impeachment off the table? When will you learn liberals won't hate you less if you play nice in these tumultuous times? No matter how polite, complacent, and complicit you are, Obama will continue to harm our Republic and make you impotent. Even today, his very un-presidential speech mocked you for always being a' 'hatin'. Your apathy is their power."

On his Wednesday radio show, Limbaugh criticized House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) for announcing to the world that Republicans would not impeach Obama.

"Boehner took it off the table if it was ever on the table, and I don't like all these things being 'taken off the table,' by the way," Limbaugh declared. "We just said we're not gonna shut the government down, so we're not gonna use the power of the purse to stop Obama. Okay. Now we're saying impeachment's off the table, so we're not gonna use the Constitution to stop Obama."

Limbaugh said the "Republican Party is bragging or broadcasting that they're not gonna do anything to stop Obama" because, despite Obama's record-low approval and record-high disapproval numbers, the GOP establishment still believes that, "if there's any pursuit of Obama politically, that it's just gonna send the independents running right to the Democrats in the midterms and all that."

"They really do believe, even now, that the public does not want to hear their Dear Leader criticized," Limbaugh said of the squeamish GOP elites. "They don't want to hear their Dear Leader subject to impeachment talks or what have you, and so the Republicans are doing everything they can tell everybody, 'We're not gonna impeach him! We're not gonna do it!' It's just purely defensive. It's rooted in fear, and I think it's a miscalculation." Limbaugh said is not intending to lead the impeachment movement but realized the foolishness of taking impeachment off the table, which would only embolden Obama.
Palin asked Republicans who complain about Obama's lawlessness but do not want to consider impeachment: "After soothing Obama by reassuring him that he'll never be held accountable via the ultimate serious check on his lawlessness, you'll now ease on down WHAT road to stop the madness? What's the plan to stop his fundamental transformation of America?"

"Please don't tell us you're armed with a phone and a pen and now a bunch of lawyers filing suit," she said, of Boehner's lawsuit against Obama. "You can't bring those to the front lines and win."

And please don't underestimate the wisdom of the people. We see Team Obama's obvious strategy in pushing you back in a corner as you lay down the ultimate weapon of force our Founders provided you in our Constitution. Congress, you've already disarmed yourself of the other weapon the Constitution gives you by refusing to use the power of the purse to defund Obama’s lawlessness. Now you’re completely unilaterally disarming by taking any notion of impeachment off the table while Obama gleefully pushes forward with amnesty by fiat. He's called your bluff, GOP! But it's not too late.

Stand tall and don’t be afraid to educate the public about the Constitution’s remedy for a lawless imperial presidency. If you educate Americans about what impeachable offenses really are, they will listen. And trust me, if Obama moves on amnesty, Americans will look to you for action. If you stand up for the Constitution, you won't let them down. Please be stronger, wiser, and more courageous for us. We'll have your back. Reciprocate.

As Palin has been emphasizing, Limbaugh also emphasized that many do not understand what "high crimes and misdemeanors" actually are:

High crimes and misdemeanors does not mean theft, larceny, murder, any of that.  High crimes and misdemeanors means dereliction of duty! High crimes and misdemeanors means action outside the Constitution.  High crimes and misdemeanors means action detrimental to the country in violation of the oath of office.  It's an entirely different the thing than a criminal definition.

Andrew McCarthy, the former federal prosecutor and author of Faithless Execution: Building the Political Case for Obama’s Impeachment, recently wrote in National Review, that many politicians are oblivious to what  "high crimes and misdemeanors" actually mean.

"Contrary to some less than informed opinion, 'high crimes and misdemeanors' – the legal standard for impeachment – refers not to indictable criminal offenses but to profound breaches of the public trust by high-ranking officials," McCarthy wrote. "Once the standard is understood, it becomes easy to see that the president and his underlings have committed numerous, readily provable impeachable offenses. "

Palin called for impeachment on the pages of Breitbart News, and said Obama's lawlessness on illegal immigration that impacts American workers of all backgrounds and races, including legal immigrants, was the tipping point. After her announcement, a third of Americans a majority of Americans are for it. And Palin said the threat of impeachment can prevent Obama from acting more lawlessly. And if Obama goes ahead with more executive actions on illegal immigration by granting work permits to millions of more illegal immigrants, even more people will consider impeachment. She has said if more Americans learn that the Founders intended impeachment to be the ultimate check against a lawless executive, they would be in favor of it.

Child Watch® Column: "We Need Immigration Reform Now!"

Child Watch® Column: "We Need Immigration Reform Now!"
Release Date: November 8, 2013
Children’s Defense Fund Newsroom
Nine-year-old Jaime Gordillo Villa was born in the United States and is a good student who has gotten awards for both good grades and behavior. He wants to be a lawyer when he grows up to help immigrants and others who need help. He says he doesn’t want people to suffer for things they didn’t do. His family knows about suffering since coming to the United States to start a new life. Jaime adored his big brother. They studied and played soccer and video games together. But when his brother was detained by immigration officials his family had to spend so much money on lawyers to try to keep him here that they lost their home. And then his brother was deported anyway. Jaime’s afraid his mother or father might be next if they are caught by the police and he might lose them too. He is one of fifty courageous children the Fair Immigration Reform Movement has coming to Washington, D.C. on November 14 to share their stories with members of Congress and urge them to pass immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship this year.

As the debate on immigration reform continues in Congress, millions of children have so much at stake. One in four children in the United States currently lives in an immigrant family, representing about 18.4 million children. Children of immigrants represent the fastest growing segment of the child population. Immigrant populations are diverse, but many children in immigrant families face significant challenges to their health and well-being, including poverty, lack of health insurance, low educational attainment, substandard housing, and language barriers. Any long term solution to our immigration system must take into account what is best for these children.

A recent report from Human Impact Partners (HIP), Family Unity, Family Health, highlights the need to protect children’s rights and keep families together during immigration reform to ensure children’s health. Family-focused immigration reform would result in better child health. Our current immigration policies push families apart and children into illness and poverty. HIP projects that if current policies remain unchanged, 43,000 U.S. citizen children will experience a decline in health status, 100,000 will develop signs of withdrawal, and over 125,000 will go hungry in the next year. Children of undocumented immigrants—the majority of whom are U.S. citizens—will continue to suffer from trauma and fear of deportation which can lead to costly health consequences in their adult lives.

The Children’s Defense Fund has joined with many child and family advocates supporting a set of key principles for children we hope Congress and the Administration will incorporate in immigration reform without more delay. Limbo is a very bad place for children to live.

First, we believe there must be a direct, clear, and reasonable pathway to citizenship. Any pathway to citizenship must be open, affordable, safe, and accessible to children in need of status, including beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), undocumented children under the age of 21, and unaccompanied immigrant children.

Second, our immigration system must uphold children’s basic human rights and ensure access to critical public services, programs, and economic supports for children and their families. Protecting a child’s human rights should include ensuring children receive legal representation before all immigration authorities and, for all unaccompanied children, the appointment of an independent child advocate from the moment of detention throughout the course of any immigration or other related court proceedings.

Third, we need to ensure enforcement efforts have appropriate protections for children. In all enforcement actions, including those along the border, the best interests of the child should be a primary consideration and children must be given the benefit of the doubt during any investigation or detention. There should be appropriate and accountable training policies for interacting with and screening children that reflect a humanitarian and protection-oriented approach, prohibit the use of force with children, and create reasonable and safe conditions for children.

Finally, we must keep families together. All policies regarding admissibility, enforcement, detention, and deportation of children and their parents must consider the best interests of children, including enabling immigration judges to exercise discretion in admission and removal decisions based on the hardship to U.S. citizen and lawful permanent resident children. The immigration system must be updated by resolving current backlogs and ensuring family-based immigration channels are adequate for future migration without lengthy family separation.

As the youngest and most vulnerable members of our society, every child within our borders should have access to the services and resources they need to survive, grow, and thrive. As our nation’s leaders, hopefully, move forward with the important task of reforming federal immigration laws, I hope they will take into account the unique needs of children. Please urge your member in the House of Representatives to take action on immigration reform that promotes child well-being by ensuring families stay together and gives all children the opportunity to grow and thrive. The Senate has acted. The House must vote—now.

Obama's bid to deport children complicates immigration reform effort
On Tuesday, Secretary of State John F. Kerry will meet with the leaders of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala on the sidelines of the Panamanian president's inauguration to reinforce items agreed to during Vice President Joe Biden's visit to the Central American countries earlier this month, the official said.
Authorities have apprehended more than 52,000 unaccompanied minors at the Southwest border so far this fiscal year — about double the number from a comparable period in the last fiscal year. Many are fleeing violence at home, or reacting to false rumors that children and families will be given permission to stay.

Melissa Harris-Perry Likens Perry’s Use of Nat'l Guard to 1960s-Era Segregation

Melissa Harris-Perry Likens Perry’s Use of Nat'l Guard to 1960s-Era Segregation
on Breitbart TV 27 Jul 2014
On her Saturday MSNBC program, Melissa Harris-Perry railed against those protesting the flow of unaccompanied illegal immigration children across the southern U.S. border.

She particularly took aim at Gov. Rick Perry’s use of his state’s National Guard at the border attempting to prevent that flow and drew a comparison to the use of the National Guard in the September 1957 to block the Little Rock Nine from entering Central High in Little Rock, AR by then-Gov. Orval Faubus (D-AR).

Partial transcript as follows:

If we looked at had history, we do indeed see where there are moments when children have been the catalyst that moved Americans to push beyond their own biases and borders -- both national and racial. In May of 1963, the children's crusade organized by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference brought more than 3,000 young people to the city of Birmingham, AL in a show of civil disobedience against segregation in the city.

Once Americans saw those images of children standing courageously against injustice, the tide of national public opinion took a pivotal turn in support of the civil rights movement's cause. But we can't embrace that moment of America’s moral fortitude without also owning the great moral failing to had it was responding because the children at the border have also been confronted with the hostility that is as old as the segregated South and just as American as the grace and charity of those to who have extended a hand of help.

And if we are to claim our history protecting vulnerable children, we must also grapple with our history of responding to them as a threat when their presence undermines an established order. As much as Americans rallied to the cause of the children's crusade, it was also agents of the American state that were willing to attack them with armed officers, fire hoses, and police dogs when they challenge a deeply entrenched way of life in the South.

Rick Perry was preceded in his call to send armed troops to confront children by Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus, and he, of course, called the National Guard to stop the Little Rock Nine from their first day of school at Central High.

The presence of children on buses integrating Boston schools in 1974 didn't stop white crowds from confronting them with slurs and threats of violence. Nor did it give pause to the adults who hurled objects and insults at 6-year-old Ruby Bridges on the day she became the first African-Americans child to desegregate an elementary school. And so when we look to children seeking safety at our borders and see instead an invasion to be defended against, a contagion to be contained or a drain on resources that we just don’t want to share – that is a side of history on which we are choosing to stand.

Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was a student activist movement in the United States that was one of the main representations of the New Left. The organization developed and expanded rapidly in the mid-1960s before dissolving at its last convention in 1969.
SDS has been an important influence on student organizing in the decades since its collapse. Participatory democracy, direct action, radicalism, student power, shoestring budgets, and its organizational structure are all present in varying degrees in current American student activist groups. Though various organizations have been formed in subsequent years as proposed national networks for left-wing student organizing, none has approached the scale of SDS, and most have lasted a few years at best.

Michelle Nunn: Favorable Media Bias Part of Democrat Campaign Strategy

Michelle Nunn: Favorable Media Bias Part of Democrat Campaign Strategy
by John Nolte 28 Jul 2014, 12:56 PM PDT
Over at National Review, Eliana Johnson got hold of a confidential campaign plan for Michelle Nunn, the Georgia Democrat running for the U.S. Senate. Nunn is one of the two or three hopes Democrats have of actually picking up a Senate seat. The campaign is cynical, to say the least, especially in its assessment of Jews as a "tremendous financial opportunity" and Asians as "very tight."

Ricochet looked at the report and found one area the campaign felt very good about: How Nunn could count on the media to be on its side and even warn them of in advance of GOP attacks:

Her strategists are optimistic that the media won’t prove much of an obstacle. They write that at some point her opponent, who at the time the document was written had yet to be determined, will be “shoveling research” against her. But they say they anticipate they will often have “fair warning” about negative news stories and can work to “kill or muddy” them.

“I would love to know what kind of already-formed relationships they have in Atlanta and even in the national media that they’re planning on using as sources and conduits of information,” Swint says. “It’s certainly interesting to see it in writing like that.”

Embedded below is a screen grab of the actual campaign report excerpt:

1. The mainstream media is in the tank for Democrats.

2. When Democrats believe they are speaking in confidence, they not only admit it, they make that bias a part of their campaign strategy.

3. Democrats sure got it good.

California Gov. Brown to Meet With Mexican President

California Gov. Brown to Meet With Mexican President
Sunday, 27 Jul 2014 08:00 PM
California Gov. Jerry Brown is traveling to Mexico for three days of meetings and will discuss immigration with President Enrique Pena Nieto and separately with Central American diplomatic and religious leaders.

The governor's office announced Sunday that Brown will sit down Monday with Nieto and separately with Mexico's secretary of foreign affairs, whom the governor met with last week in Sacramento.

The meeting Tuesday with more than a dozen Central American leaders comes as a surge of unaccompanied young migrants and families mostly from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala have crossed the U.S. border since October.

The governor's trade mission aims to increase direct investments in California, promote university exchanges and form environmental partnerships to combat climate change.

The trip includes a delegation of more than 100 state government, business, economic development, investment and policy leaders.
