La Raza Pres: 'Urgent' for Obama to Enact 'Bold' Exec Amnesty ASAP

La Raza Pres: 'Urgent' for Obama to Enact 'Bold' Exec Amnesty ASAP

Janet Murguia, the president and CEO of La Raza, does not want to wait any longer for millions of illegal immigrants to be granted temporary amnesty

In a Monday appearance on MSNBC, Murguia told host Jose Diaz-Balart that it is "very important and urgent for the president to act as soon as possible" on his executive amnesty. She said "our hope is that he will be bold and that he will announce soon his intentions to allow illegal immigrants who have been "deeply rooted here in the United States for many years" and "tied to citizen children" to receive executive amnesty. She said she was also hoping for Obama to "expand the categories of DREAMers" so that more illegal immigrant children qualify for legalization.

Obama is reportedly on the verge of granting executive amnesty and work permits to five million illegal immigrants, including the parents of DREAMers. But pro-amnesty advocates are pushing for Obama to "go big" and enact an even broader executive amnesty.

Murguia, echoing what Obama has emphasized, pressed Republicans in Congress to pass a bill making amnesty for illegal immigrants "permanent." She said that in the meantime it is important for Obama to act while "there is this vacuum."

She also claimed that "legal experts far and wide" are in agreement about Obama's legal authority to enact such a massive executive amnesty even though liberal George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley has said that Obama's executive amnesty would be an "unprecedented" and "dangerous" threat to the constitutional system.
