NICOSIA — Iran has warned of massive retaliation against the United States.

Iranian parliamentarians said Teheran could attack all 32 U.S. military bases in the Middle East and South Asia.

The parliamentarians said the Iranian attack would be launched in retaliation for any U.S. war against Teheran.

“In case of a U.S. military attack against Iran, all the U.S. military bases in the regional countries will be turned into a slaughterhouse of the American forces,” Mohammed Kosari, a member of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said.

In a statement to Iran’s state-owned Fars News Agency on Jan. 26, Kosari
said Washington was threatening Teheran amid the rapproachment effort by
President Barack Obama. The parliamentarian pointed to statements by U.S.
Secretary of State John Kerry, said to have threatened Iran and Syria.

“Obama knows better than anyone that the United States is not in any condition to launch a military attack against any country,” Kosari said.

[In what could be a related development, the Israel Air Force was said
to have bombed a Syrian military facility that contained Russian-origin
S-300PMU2 air defense launchers. The Syrian opposition said the Israeli air
strike took place on late Jan. 26 in the coastal city of Latakia.]

The Iranian threats, which included the commander of the Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps, came in wake of the implementation of the P5+1
nuclear accord with Teheran on Jan. 20. Iran has asserted that the agreement
does not require the dismantling of any nuclear facilities or gas
centrifuges.

Kosari dismissed any U.S. threat against Iran as a bluff. He said Obama
would have demonstrated U.S. power by attacking Syria in 2013, a threat
rescinded by the president.
