US Killing Its Own Constitution
By Jayme Evans Monday, December 1, 2008

The strength of our republic lies in its constitution. Written in blood, the US Constitution has served as our guiding framework for generations. Federal power exists solely by virtue of the Constitution’s existence. Our representatives in Washington all swear to uphold and defend it, but lately, politicians in both parties have been waging war against it.

Their intrusion into such matters as the bailouts of financial institutions, the awarding of citizenship to illegal aliens, the transfers of technology or monetary aid to foreign governments, the teaching and promotion of Islamic Finance 101 and many other aspects of Congressional or administrative scope of authority go far beyond the intent of the framers. Although many in Congress have never held a real job outside of perhaps attorney, they all seem to be experts on everything; fighting wars, economics, physics, environmental science and, in the case of President-elect Obama, the NCAA’s Bowl Championship Series (BCS).

Obama sees our constitution, not through the eyes of our Founders, but through the bifocals of social injustice and secular progressivism. He believes, not in letting the Constitution enlighten and guide his decision-making, but in the tinkering and tailoring of the Constitution so that it more closely fits his definition of equality. It is obsolete and imperfect, so it must be changed.

Obama has no credibility on the issue of Iraq or anything else of importance to our nation’s veterans. He has nothing but disdain for those who wear the uniform. As Commander-In-Chief, it is a given that he will scrap the existing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, resulting in severe military readiness and morale problems during long deployments in tight quarters. To date, Obama has only half-acknowledged the success of our military in Iraq. Despite that, his transition website is calling the Iraq War “An occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs, and undetermined consequences" , despite the reality that American military success has led to a Status of Forces Agreement (SOF) that calls for withdrawal of all US forces by a fixed date in 2011.

Iraq is a success, but our next Commander-In-Chief cannot stomach that thought.

Obama also made it clear that many Pentagon programs will come under review. He has also previously spoken of dismantling programs that don’t work, but left out specifics. For our country’s sake, I hope I’m wrong in my belief that vital weapons programs like the F-22 Raptor, V-22 Osprey or other force multipliers will fall victim to Obama’s budget ax.

Congressional Democrats have been emboldened by Obama’s election. Charles Schumer, who likened conservative talk radio to pornography, along with Nancy Pelosi and other hard-lefties are quite open about their desire to revive the Fairness Doctrine and muzzle conservative talk radio. Liberals dominate every single sector of the media other than talk radio. There is no plausible explanation why Congress would want to regulate the content of radio hosts like Laura Ingraham Mark Levin or Michael Savage, other than to silence them.

Of course, all of these constitutional issues pale in comparison with the controversy that continues to simmer around Barack Obama’s place of birth. Contrary to what his supporters claim, Obama has never produced his original birth certificate. What he has offered is a “Certificate of live Birth” which does not name the doctor or hospital who delivered him, only registers his birth. There are now lawsuits in over a half dozen states calling on election officials not to certify Obama’s electoral votes until the questions are resolved. Rather than produce the document and silence his critics for good, Obama continues to stonewall, refusing to unseal his birth certificate. Liberal judges have also dismissed several lawsuits on the dubious claim that those bringing this constitutional question before the courts have no standing to do so.

Frivolous lawsuits are an American way of life. If an average American citizen does not have standing as a registered voter to resolve the open constitutional question of Barack Obama’s eligibility for office, then who does?

These days, there is a high price to be paid for being an American. Just last weekend, hostages taken in the massacre in Mumbai, India were ordered to produce their passports. Those with western passports, Americans in particular were executed. Barack Obama is not facing execution, we are simply asking for him to produce that which will prove beyond a doubt he was indeed born on American soil. Our constitution hangs in the balance. We must answer this question before his inauguration. If Obama is allowed to assume the Presidency and he is found to have been born outside the United States, or that question is never fully answered, either scenario will ignite a constitutional crisis the likes of which we’ve never seen.
